A federal judge ruled last week that several New York crisis pregnancy centers are permitted to continue to speak freely about the abortion pill reversal protocol amid attacks against the pregnancy centers from Attorney General Letitia James across the Empire State. The protocol in question is a process supported by pro-life organizations that allow a woman to take a dose of bioidentical progesterone to counteract the effects of mifepristone, a synthetic steroid used to induce abortion.
U.S. District Judge John Sinatra issued a preliminary injunction to the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates, Gianna’s House, and the Options Care Center against James, who launched lawsuits against pro-life organizations across the state because they promoted the abortion pill reversal protocol for women attempting to save their unborn children at the last minute.
According to Sinatra’s ruling, “The First Amendment protects Plaintiffs’ right to speak freely about [abortion pill reversal] protocol and, more specifically, to say that it is safe and effective for a pregnant woman to use in consultation with her doctor. Indeed, the ‘very purpose of the First Amendment is to foreclose public authority from assuming a guardianship of the public mind through regulating the press, speech, and religion.’”
Furthermore, the Alliance Defending Freedom initiated a lawsuit against James earlier this year after the attorney general sued 11 pregnancy centers on accusations of false advertising. ADF lawyer Caleb Dalton said, “Women in New York have literally saved their babies from an in-progress chemical drug abortion because they had access to information through their local pregnancy centers about using safe and effective progesterone for abortion pill reversal. But the attorney general tried to deny women the opportunity to even hear about this life-saving option.”
Dalton continued, “Taking supplemental progesterone may give them a chance to save their baby’s life. Women should have the option to reconsider an abortion, and the pro-life pregnancy centers we represent in this case truthfully inform them about that choice. The court was right to affirm the pregnancy centers’ freedom to tell interested women about this life-saving treatment option.”
The American Tribune recently reported on other news surrounding the pro-life movement in which Republican congressmen slammed the Biden-Harris administration after the “evil” convictions of anti-abortion protestors, including an 89-year-old activist, who faced charges for allegedly violating the FACE Act and committing conspiracy against rights.
Rep. Mike Lee (R- UT) took to X, writing, “Kamala Harris and Joe Biden are sending an elderly survivor of communist prison camps back to prison using the FACE Act against pro-lifers. Evil.” The Utah Republican has repeatedly criticized the seeming weaponization of the FACE Act against pro-life activists who want to protest abortion peacefully. Lee has previously introduced legislation in the Senate to repeal the law.
Similarly, Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy also shared his thoughts to X, slamming the conviction of the pro-life activists who he claimed were using their freedom of speech to protest peacefully. “89 year old woman who survived communist prison camp in Eastern Europe.. prosecuted by [Kamala Harris] regime… convicted – faces up to 10 years in prison. FOR PEACEFUL PROTEST OF ABORTION,” he posted on X.
