Speaking to NewsNation’s Leland Vittert, highly respected pollster Frank Luntz said that former independent candidate Robert Fr. Kennedy Jr.’s decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race and throw his support behind former President Donald Trump is something that could make all the difference in the election and help propel the former president to victory in the fall.
As background, Mr. Kennedy, before dropping out, had a large amount of support, about 5% of those polled, in numerous swing states. If that 5% flows to Trump, as it might given what high-profile Kennedy supporters have said, then that could be a large impact on the race. In fact, Luntz said, it could be enough of an impact to sway the election.
Commenting on how it could matter in the race, Luntz told Vittert, “It’s probably worth about 1% for Trump, and that 1% could be everything if it’s in all the swing states. In the end, the reason why Kennedy was strong 10%, 12%, even as high as 14% is because he was taking votes away from Joe Biden. Joe Biden is gone. Kamala Harris has replaced him, and his vote collapsed down to about 4% or 5%. And what’s left is a Trump vote.”
Continuing, he noted that while many Kennedy supporters might not vote, those who do vote are much more likely to vote for Trump than Kamala. He said, “Some of them are simply not going to participate in November. Roughly 2 to 1, the ones who are remaining will vote for Trump over Harris. And that’s worth a single percent. And a single percent can make the difference in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.”
Watch him here:
Trump, roasting Kamala on his Truth Social social media platform, noted that she is quite weak on the crime issue, particularly given the illegal immigration crisis under Biden. He said, Kamala Harris is the Weakest Presidential Candidate in History on Crime. She’s allowed millions of people to pour through our Borders, many from prisons, mental institutions and, indeed, terrorists, coming in at levels never seen before.”
Continuing, he noted that she didn’t win the primary this time around and did horribly in 2020, saying, “What gives her the right to run for President? She got no votes to Biden’s 14 Million. She failed in her previous attempt, was the first one out of 22 people to quit, never made it to Iowa, and now she’s a Presidential Candidate? This is a Threat to Democracy!”
In another post on Truth Social, the former president sounded off on attempts to make it sound like he is the incumbent and the current issues in America, such as inflation and illegal immigration, are issues that he and his policies caused, saying that the blame is firmly on the Biden-Harris Admin. He said, “Kamala and her “handlers” are trying to make it sound like I am the Incumbent President, so that they can blame me for the failure of the past four years. No, it was their failure! It is one of the worst Presidencies in History, and she is definitely the Worst Vice President.”
