Speaking during a joint press conference with famous boxer Mike Tyson on Sunday, August 18, up-and-coming boxer and former YouTuber Jake Paul sounded off on New York City, calling it a “dumb*** Democratic city” and hurling expletives at the crowd, which was on Tyson’s side because he is a New York native. The press conference came on the final day of Fanatics Fest at New York’s Javits Center.
In fact, the crowd wasn’t just supporting Tyson; it was messing with and egging on Paul, booing him and chanting “f*** Jake Paul.” Paul wasn’t fazed by the crowd’s chants and comments, even joining in the “f*** Jake Paul” chant at one point. He also played along with them, jabbing at New York City and the crowd.
At one point, for example, as the crowd booed, he said, “Hey New York, shut the f— up, New York. Boo yourselves.” Continuing, he mocked the city and Tyson as being degraded has-beens. He said, “You’re just like Mike Tyson – you were good 20 years ago.” Paul then said, again attacking NYC, “F— you, dumba– Democratic city.”
Tyson chimed in as well. At one point, he joked that Paul is just a YouTuber while he is actually a fighter, saying, “We got a YouTuber fighting against the greatest fighter of all time.” He also insisted that he was only in the fight for money, saying, “I’m here to make $40 million and knock out a legend – I don’t care about anything else… I’m not here to do s— besides make a bag.”
Watch them here:
Paul has spoken about political situations before. For example, when former President Donald Trump was almost assassinated, Paul said, in an interview on his brother Logan’s podcast, “It’s one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen and probably will ever see. I think there would have been a civil war if something would have hit him. But I think that’s like the divine intervention, for sure. I believe that God stepped in and saved him. It’s quite literally ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.’ And I think that’s also probably why God had this exact situation happen – because He saw the path that we were going down.”
He also said, “And I’m not even gonna say, like, it’s Democrat-Republican, what does it matter? It’s the people who are running the government now, the path that they were leading us to was gonna be catastrophic and terrible. And I think God really intervened, like, ‘We need this guy right now. Everyone needs to flip sides. We can’t have a close election – we need a landslide. We need this guy to come back in and make America great again.'”
Paul also said, throwing his support behind Trump in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on July 13, “I pray for peace and prosperity for the world and I believe Trump gives us the best chance at that. He kept us out of wars. Hundreds of thousands of innocent people have died in Ukraine and Gaza. We need Trump.”
