According to Trump supporter Aura Moody, when she and her fellow Trump supporter and friend Taisha tried enjoying a game at the New York Mets stadium while wearing their red “Make America Great Again” Trump hats, they were stopped and told they could not enter Citi Field because their hats were “too political.”
Aura Moody, who spoke about the incident to the New York Post, said that it was “political discrimination” behind the decision of those running Citi Field to not let them enter the stadium with their MAGA hats. Moody said that she and Taisha had made it past the security checkpoint with their hats before an employee stopped them and said they couldn’t enter with their hats.
It wasn’t just that they couldn’t wear the hats; they weren’t allowed to bring them into the stadium. According to Moody, the employee instructed them to take the hats all the way back to their car and leave them there. The stadium employee told them that they were not allowed to just take the hats off and put them in their bags.
Speaking to the New York Post, Moody said that the MAGA hat situation made her think that she was living under the boot of a communist regime. She said, “The United States of America is no longer the vehicle of freedom and tolerance. I am living under a communist regime where our freedoms are trampled upon….that was the first thought that came to my mind.”
Moody also claimed that the stadium wouldn’t have stopped her had she been wearing a Black Lives Matter hat or a hat supporting President Biden. In her view, the staff would have let her into the stadium without an issue if she was wearing such apparel. She told the New York Post, on that note, “We are conservative people, we believe in tolerance. If I was wearing a BLM, Biden, Harris hat, they would have let me go through.”
One of Moody’s friends took to Facebook to speak out about the issue and give another rendition of the story. That friend, Christopher Joseph, wrote, “This is my friend Aura . . . On Wednesday night, she attended the NY Mets game at Citi Field with a group of people from the Queens Village Republican Club. After she passed through security, she was about to have her ticket scanned when she was stopped by a Mets employee.”
Joseph continued, “She was told that she could not enter the stadium because she was wearing a red baseball cap with the words “Make America Great Again”. We all know what that means. After Aura informed the employee that she had a first amendment right to wear the cap, she was told that she had to go back to her car and leave her cap there if she wanted to attend the ballgame.”
Joseph then wrote, “Aura argued for a brief period but her friends wanted to get in to see the game she returned to her car and left the cap there. She also spoke to a supervisor and has filed a complaint. Folks, I honestly don’t give a shit if you despise Donald Trump. That is NOT what this is about!!! Is this the America that you want to live in?”
