Recently, Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC) sparked a meltdown on a CNN panel after she was allegedly “disrespectful” toward Vice President Kamala Harris for mispronouncing her name. The incident occurred during a conversation surrounding pro-Trump, black-owned businesses selling merchandise for the former president’s campaign.
However, a black professor sitting next to Mace took issue with the way the representative was pronouncing her name. “This congresswoman is a wonderful human being,” he said. “But when you disrespect Kamala Harris by saying you will call her whatever you want, I know you don’t intend to be that way, but that’s the history and legacy of white disregard of Black people.”
Mace fired back, “Oh, so now you’re calling me a racist?” The professor continued, “I didn’t say that! I didn’t say the word racist.” The two descended into a quarrel and talked over one another. “That is complete BS,” said Mace. The professor claimed, “You don’t have to intend racism to accomplish it. Your disrespect of Kamala Harris is part and parcel of a tradition of disrespect.” Shortly thereafter, the entire panel devolved into a shouting match.
“White women don’t have the ability to tell Black women who paid the price of blood to make this country what it is to tell them that they’re not real women!” the professor proclaimed. However, Mace remained defiant, citing that she was the first woman to graduate from the military Citadel and always “fought for women.” “So pronounce her name right!” he shouted back. Once again, Mace called the vice president “Kam-AL-a”, sparking further disagreement among the panelists. “You’re doing this on purpose!” another guest on the segment shouted at her.
In other news regarding CNN and Kamala Harris, The American Tribune reported on another recent incident where even the left-leaning network is growing impatient with the vice president’s seeming refusal to engage with the media. Since stepping up to lead the Democratic ticket after Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 race last month, Harris has yet to give a press conference or interview with the press.
During a recent broadcast, CNN host Jim Acosta pressed Vice President Kamala Harris’s communications director, Michael Tyler. “I’m sure this is not going to be the first time you’ve heard this question, but the Trump campaign is also going after the vice president for not doing enough interviews, for not holding a press conference. Would it kill you guys to have a press conference? Why hasn’t she had a press conference?” he asked.
Acosta disputed that campaign rallies can be equivocated to legitimate, unscripted press conferences or interviews. “But Michael, you know, a campaign rally is not a press conference. Do you mind if I cut in? I mean, you know, a campaign rally is not a press conference. Why hasn’t she had a press conference? She’s the vice president, she can handle the questions, why not do it?” Many have speculated that Harris is intentionally avoiding the media because she is not capable of answering hard-hitting questions.
