Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, has recently been called out after it was reported that he took his then-girlfriend on a rather odd first date. Reports indicate that in 1993, Walz took his future wife to the movies to see the Michael Douglas crime drama, “Falling Down,” which depicts a middle-aged man having a continual mental breakdown.
In the film, Douglas’ character has to walk the streets of Los Angeles to reach his daughter’s birthday party after his car breaks down. According to Wikipedia, “The film stars Michael Douglas as William Foster, a divorced and unemployed former defense engineer. It centers on Foster’s trek across the city of Los Angeles as he attempts to reach the house of his estranged ex-wife in time for his daughter’s birthday. Along the way, a series of encounters, both trivial and provocative, cause him to react with increasing violence and to make sardonic observations on life, poverty, the economy, and commercialism.”
Many have pointed out that such a movie selection is less-than-romantic, especially for a first date. As X user Alex Yablon put it, “What an insane first date movie.” However, the Walz’s dating tactics seem to have worked as he has now been married to his wife Gwen for roughly thirty years.
The news of the unorthodox first date comes as there has been a back-and-forth exchange between the Harris campaign and the Trump campaign about the other being “weird.” Vice President Harris and Governor Walz initially hurled the insult toward Vance, who addressed the slander gracefully, claiming it was a tactic to demean the MAGA agenda.
Vance said, “They’re going to attack us on something. They’re going to criticize. Going to criticize us on something. I think that what makes Donald Trump and I good candidates and a good team is that we’re normal guys who want to make this country great again, and we want Americans to be able to live the American dream.”
Vance also suggested the “weird” narrative was concocted by social media interns in the Harris campaign that had a lacking social life during their formative years. “I think that a weird argument. Twenty-four year old social media interns who were bullied in school and they decided they’re going to project that onto the entire Trump campaign,” he said.
The Ohio senator also turned the tables on Walz, calling him out on odd behavior toward his wife, while on stage, “I really do think that whatever Tim Walz calls me, I mean, talk about talk about weird with Tim Walz. I don’t know if you guys saw the rally yesterday, but afterwards, his wife up to him, and Tim Walz does what any normal Midwestern guy would do, seeing his beautiful wife on stage after a speech, he gives her handshake, right? That’s pretty that’s pretty weird. When I see my wife after a speech, I got a kiss because I’m excited to see her, and she’s my wife.”
