Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk recently hosted a critically acclaimed interview with former President Donald Trump on his social media platform, X, where the two discussed a wide array of essential topics. During the conversation, Musk emphasized that the country is at a pivotal point in its history and urged moderates to vote for Trump, warning that “deep trouble” will follow if the left remains in power.
Musk, who officially endorsed Trump after the failed assassination attempt against Trump last month, noted that he has historically been a Democrat-leaning moderate. “I’ve not been very political before. [The media] try to paint me as a far-right guy, which is absurd because I like to make electric vehicles,” Musk told Trump. “I supported Obama — I stood in line for six hours to shake Obama’s hand [and] historically I was a moderate Democrat.”
Stressing the importance of the upcoming election, Musk continued, “And I’m just trying to point out that my track record historically has been moderate, if not moderate slightly left. And so this is to people out there who are in the moderate camp to say, I think you should support Donald Trump for president, and I think it’s actually a very important juncture in the road, and we’re in deep trouble if it goes the other way.”
Trump expressed that it was an “honor” to have Musk’s endorsement while quipping that he had always thought of him as a Democrat. “Well, I want to thank you. And you know, I actually always did think of you as somewhat left. I must say that, so it’s even more of an honor to have your endorsement,” the Republican presidential candidate said.
The American Tribune reported on another moment in the X interview, in which Musk discussed the need for a commission that would improve the efficiency of government spending. Elon told Trump, “Inflation comes from government overspending, because the checks never bounce when it’s written by the government. So if the government spends far more than it brings in, that increases the money supply, and if the money supply increases faster than the rate of goods and services, that’s inflation.”
Musk then said, “We’re currently adding, I think, a trillion dollars to the deficit every roughly every 100 days. And you know, the interest payments on the national debt have now exceeded the defense budget.” The multi-company CEO asked Trump if he thought the country needed such a commission, to which Trump said, “yes.”
Musk continued outlining the importance and function of the hypothetical commission, stating, “I think it would be great to just have a Government Efficiency Commission that takes a look at these things and just ensures that the taxpayer money, the taxpayer’s hard earned money, is spent in a good way.” Elon mentioned that he wants to get involved with the initiative, saying, “And I’d be happy to help out on such a commission if it were formed.” Trump said he would love to have Elon do so and improve efficiency, saying, “I’d love it. You’re the greatest cutter.”
