Speaking during an epic interview on the night of Monday, August 12, former President Donald Trump told Elon Musk, the X owner, and CEO and founder of Tesla, SpaceX, and The Boring Company, that he would “love” to have him head a government commission that looks into and eradicates wasteful government spending.
Trump’s remark about Elon and such a commission came as the two discussed how to solve the huge problem of inflation, one that the Biden-Harris Administration has become known for and which many see as the direct result of government money printing and overspending, particularly in the inflation-ridden wake of Covid.
Elon brought up the matter of government spending and inflation, telling Trump, during the conversation, “Inflation comes from government overspending, because the checks never bounce when it’s written by the government. So if the government spends far more than it brings in, that increases the money supply, and if the money supply increases faster than the rate of goods and services, that’s inflation.”
Then, after noting that government spending, particularly with the use of copious amounts of debt, leads to disastrously bad inflation, Mr. Musk argued that there should be a Government Efficiency Commission. He said that such a commission would evaluate the current state of government spending and cut out pointless spending, thus getting American finances back on track.
Speaking about the current stake of American spending and the debt that is being used to make it happen, Musk then said, “We’re currently adding, I think, a trillion dollars to the deficit every roughly every 100 days. And you know, the interest payments on the national debt have now exceeded the defense budget.”
Somewhat later on, Mr. Musk asked Trump if he thought that there should be such a commission. Trump said, “yes.” Musk then spoke again about the importance of such a commission and what it would do. He said, “I think it would be great to just have a Government Efficiency Commission that takes a look at these things and just ensures that the taxpayer money, the taxpayer’s hard earned money, is spent in a good way.”
Then, moments later, Musk through out that he wants to get involved with such a commission, saying, “And I’d be happy to help out on such a commission if it were formed.” Trump took the bait and said that he would love to have Elon do so and cut the waste, saying, “I’d love it. You’re the greatest cutter.”

Former President Trump also spoke about the assassination attempt on him during the space, saying that it strengthened his Christian faith. Speaking about how he has seen his faith change in the wake of the shocking assassination attempt and his seemingly miraculous avoidance of the assassin’s multiple rounds that would have hit his head had he not moved it at just the exactly right moment, Trump said, “I’m a believer. Now, I’m more of a believer.”
