In an absolutely hilarious and quite crushing Monday, August 12, White House Press Briefing, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre was asked about Vice President Kamala Harris. Namely, she was asked if she could name a single policy achievement of the vice president and, quite hilariously, could not.
As background, VP Harris had been tasked by President Joe Biden with addressing the “root causes” of illegal immigration from Central and South America into the United States. Illegal immigration, however, has remained a large problem for the Biden-Harris Administration. Harris, however, has refused to put forward a campaign platform or address her record as VP in a serious way.
So, as she was named as President Joe Biden’s successor when he dropped out of the 2024 presidential race, many in America are wondering what policies Vice President Harris supports and if they would be better or worse on the US-Mexico border than the Biden Administration has so far been.
Amongst those who wanted to know about the border situation, or even VP Harris’s record in general, was a reporter at the Monday press briefing. That inquisitive reporter asked KJP, “What does the president see as the vice president’s biggest achievement during their time in office together?”
KJP, hilariously, didn’t have a straight answer to give. Beginning, she claimed, without giving an example, that the Biden-Harris Administration has made “unprecedented” accomplishments. She said, “So look, because they’ve been partners … certainly those historic, unprecedented achievements have been done together.”
Continuing, she said that Biden is proud of VP Harris. She still did not, however, give an example of what Kamala has accomplished. She said, “I’ll say this, the president believes in the vice president’s leadership, her temperament, her experience. And he has said this himself, one of the proudest decisions he made in 2020 was selecting her as vice president because he believed she could go on day one.”
Still not giving an example of what VP Harris has accomplished, KJP then claimed that Harris has been “critical” to the Biden Administration, saying, “I’m not going to parse out anything from here. They have been partners. She’s been a critical partner for this president during this term, and we’ll continue to do so.”
The reporter, not having it, asked, “There’s no specific policy, it’s a comprehensive whole?” KJP then agreed with the “comprehensive whole” line and said that Team Biden’s accomplishments should be considered Kamala’s. She said, “I would say it’s a comprehensive whole. The Biden-Harris accomplishments are the Biden-Harris accomplishments.”
Still not giving any examples of vice presidential accomplishments, KJP spoke vaguely about Kamala’s roles in the Biden White House and Administration, saying, “She’s played a role, whether it is being on the floor of the Senate, getting really important legislation to pass through, or being in a room with the president and trying to figure out how to move forward strategically with a policy or how to make tough decisions on behalf of the American people, she’s been there.”
