Speaking during a presser from his Mar-a-Lago mansion and estate on Thursday, August 8, former President Donald Trump hilariously obliterated Vice President Kamala Harris. Particularly, he said, when taking questions from reporters, that Harris is s “not smart enough to do a news conference.”
During the press conference, former President Trump said that he has agreed to do three presidential debates with Fox News Channel, ABC, and NBC in September and has settled more or less all of the details with the networks. VP Harris has yet to agree to all of those debates, though she has reportedly agreed to at least one of them.
In addition to speaking about debates, Trump eviscerated Vice President Harris. Namely, he skewered the reported attention regarding her ticket and enthusiasm around it, saying that the enthusiasm wasn’t real. He also attacked Kamala for not appearing for the media, saying that she was avoiding it.
Trump’s comments came when a reporter suggested that Trump wasn’t getting in front of the public, particularly in swing states, saying, “You have not had a public campaign event for nearly a week now. Tomorrow, you’ll be in Montana, which is not a swing state. Some of your allies have expressed concern that you’re not taking this race seriously while there’s enthusiasm on the other side.”
Trump didn’t pull punches when responding. Firing back, he said, “What a stupid question.” The reporter then pressed him on his supposed lack of campaigning over the past week, asking him, “Why haven’t you been campaigning this week?” Trump, before this week, had been doing many campaign rallies and similar events.

Explaining why he’s been quieter than normal over the past week, he said, “Because I’m leading by a lot and I’m letting their convention go through.” Trump then noted that, unlike Kamala, he has been getting in front of the media a whole lot. He said, “And I’m campaigning a lot. … I’m speaking to radio, I’m speaking to television, television is coming over here. Excuse me, what are we doing right now?”
Turning from defending himself to slamming Vice President Kamala Harris, he said she’s incapable of doing news conferences like he is. He said, “She’s not doing any news conference. Do you know why she’s not doing [it]? Because she can’t do a news conference. She doesn’t know how to do a news conference. She’s not smart enough to do a news conference.”
He then turned back to himself and said that he is far smarter than Vice President Harris, which, in his view, matters greatly for the presidency given the sort of high-risk, high-complexity problems the president has to handle. He noted that he would do a better job with Russia, China, and North Korea, as shown by his first term.
He said, explaining that, “We need smart people to lead this country because our country has never been in this danger before. From an outside perspective, Russia doesn’t respect us anymore, China doesn’t respect us anymore, North Korea — Kim Jong Un — like me a lot; he doesn’t like this group.”
