Speaking during an interview on Tuesday, August 6, CNN personality and Obama White House advisor Van Jones suggested that when presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Kamala Harris chose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate, she caved to the “darker parts” of the Democratic Party.
Particularly, he argued that the GOP had been chewing its fingernails in worry that she would pick Pennsylvania Gov. Shapiro as her running mate, as doing so would more or less solidify that critical swing state into her camp, but that she instead, because of her party’s stance on Israel, chose the much less good Gov. Walz.
Van Jones even argued that in not choosing the Jewish Gov. Shapiro, probably because of past, supportive remarks he made about Israel, VP Harris had decided to go along with the parts of the electorate in which anti-semitism has become “marbled,” which he argued is a growing problem in the Democratic Party.
Beginning his comments to Jim Acosta, Van Jones said, “Here’s the challenge you’ve got in this party. People don’t want to talk about it, we’ve got to talk about it.” Continuing, he noted that the Gaza issue has grown in importance, saying, “On the one hand, you have a lot of young people who are concerned about Gaza.”
Building on that point, he noted that many of those people had not felt listened to by the Biden Administration, and so anger inside the Democratic Party was building. He said, “You have a lot of Muslims and Arabs and others. They have not felt seen by the Biden administration. You started hearing that ‘Genocide Joe.’ That was building. That was building.”
That’s when he connected Harris’s choice of Walz with the growing anti-semitism in the party, telling Acosta, “And so, those folks needed to have a candidate they could feel comfortable with. This helps it in that regard. But you also have antisemitism that’s gotten marbled into this party. You can be for the Palestinians without being an anti-Jewish bigot. But there are some anti-Jewish bigots out there.”
Getting to the “darker parts” part of his comments on Gov. Walz and why he was chosen, Van Jones said, “And there’s some disquiet now, and there has to be. How much of what just happened is caving in to some of these darker parts in the party? So, that’s gonna have to get worked out. That’s gonna have to get talked through.”
Trump, commenting on the internal Democratic Party situation in a post on Truth Social, wrote, “What are the chances that Crooked Joe Biden, the WORST President in the history of the U.S., whose Presidency was Unconstitutionally STOLEN from him by Kamabla, Barrack HUSSEIN Obama, Crazy Nancy Pelosi, Shifty Adam Schiff, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, and others on the Lunatic Left, CRASHES the Democrat National Convention and tries to take back the Nomination, beginning with challenging me to another DEBATE. He feels that he made a historically tragic mistake by handing over the U.S. Presidency, a COUP, to the people in the World he most hates, and he wants it back, NOW!!!”
