Speaking at his recent rally in Atlanta, Georgia, former President Donald Trump commented on the assassination attempt against him carried out by Thomas Matthew Crooks at his campaign rally in Butler, PA. Particularly, former President Trump said that he thinks God is responsible for his survival.
As a reminder, when Crooks fired at Trump, the former president turned his head, reportedly to look at an immigration chart, at just the right moment to avoid being killed by the volley of gunfire. Many saw the fortuitous timing of that head turn as an act of God that prevented Trump from dying. Trump seems to think that as well.
The former president first said, speaking to the crowd in Atlanta, that the Secret Service agents who protected him were brave. He said, “Say what you want, those people were brave. They were running to me. And, the bullets were flying. The Secret Service, they were very brave, they were very brave I can say. They were very brave. They were running at me, and they knew the bullets were going right over my head at that point.”
Continuing, he added that he sees God above as having saved him from death given the small chances of his turning his head at just the right moment, “The first one was not a good situation, not a good situation. That was really something incredible. That was from God. That was from God. Because the chances….that was from God. For all of you non-believers, that one was from God, right?”
Watch him here:
The former president has said similar things about God protecting him before. In one post on Truth Social, for example, he said, “Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday, as it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening. We will FEAR NOT, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness. Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed. In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win. I truly love our Country, and love you all, and look forward to speaking to our Great Nation this week from Wisconsin. 🙏 DJT”
Similarly, former President Trump said, speaking about feeling the Lord’s protection of him in the bullet-filled moment of danger, “There was blood pouring everywhere, and, yet, in a certain way, I felt very safe because I had God on my side.” He added that he is only here by the “Grace of Almighty God.”
Trump also said, “Just a few short days ago, my journey with you nearly ended. And, yet, here we are tonight, all gathered together, talking about the future, promise, and renewal of America. We live in a world of miracles.” He continued, “But if the events of last Saturday make anything clear, it is that every single moment we have on earth is a gift from God”
