The legendary rock band Aerosmith recently announced that it would be canceling the remainder of its tour after frontman Steven Tyler’s voice suffered permanent damage from a vocal chord injury last year. The band put out a statement indicating that Tyler had spent months trying to recover his voice from the devastating injury.
However, it became clear that a full recovery wasn’t possible, so the band wouldn’t be able to continue performing. Aerosmith noted that despite the news being “heartbreaking and difficult,” there was no other option. “We’ve always wanted to blow your mind when performing. As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other,” the statement read.
The message continued, “He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision – as a band of brothers – to retire from the touring stage.”
The band’s announcement also illustrated their over fifty-year run in the music industry. “It was 1970 when a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark caught flame and has been burning for over five decades. Some of you have been with us since the beginning, and all of you are the reason we made rock ‘n’ roll history,” Aerosmith said.
The rock and roll staple made sure to pay its respects to the massive fan base that has kept the band famous across the five decades they have been around. “It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours. In every club, on every massive tour and at moments grand and private you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives,” the message said.
The statement concluded, “We are grateful beyond words for everyone who was pumped to get on the road with us one last time. Grateful to our expert crew, our incredible team and the thousands of talented people who’ve made our historic runs possible. A final thank you to you – the best fans on planet Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true.”
Last year, The American Tribune originally reported on the announcement of the “Peace Out!” tour where the rockers would give it “one last go!” At the time, the band said, “PEACE OUT! After 50 years, 10 world tours, and playing for over 100 million fans… It’s time for one last go!” the band wrote to Instagram before announcing the special guest that will be joining them. “Aerosmith PEACE OUT with special guest The Black Crowes! Fans will see one of the most significant American rock bands in history one last time during this not-to-be-missed final tour.”
Since the 1970s, Aerosmith has undeniably left its mark on the history of music with massive hits such as “Dream On” and “Sweet Emotion.” While it is disappointing that the band won’t be able to conclude their final tour, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer, and Brad Whitford, certainly gave it their all over the years.
