Vice President Kamala Harris has faced criticism for reportedly spending 30 minutes in her vehicle before stepping out to read comments from a binder in front of a camera. Furthermore, Harris refused to take any questions from the press, immediately walking away from the microphone at the conclusion of her scripted comments.
During the press conference, Vice President Harris addressed the return of U.S. hostages who had been detained in Russia. Harris could be seen exiting her government vehicle, thrusting her cell phone at an aid and walking toward the press. “Sorry to keep you guys out in the heat,” she said before opening a binder and reciting her remarks.
Harris spoke about the hostages “who were unjustly held in Russia will soon be reunited with their loved ones. They and their families have shown incredible courage in the face of atrocious and devastating circumstances. Russian authorities arrested, convicted them in sham trials and sentenced them to long prison terms. It has been an appalling perversion of justice.”
The vice president further highlighter her and Biden’s diplomatic efforts. “Over many years, President Biden and I and our team have engaged in complex diplomatic negotiations to bring these strongly detained Americans home. We never stop fighting for their beliefs, and today, in spite of all of their suffering, it gives me great comfort to know that their horrible ordeal is finally over,” she said.
Harris further specified the details of the prisoner exchange, stating, “This exchange also includes the release of Russian political prisoners, including those who worked with Alexei Navalny, earlier today, I spoke with Alexei’s widow, Julia, to discuss the significance of their relief, and as I told her, this being an additional time for previous conversations with her.”
The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee concluded the speech, “The United States stands with all of those who are fighting for freedom in Russia. As we celebrate today’s news, we must also keep front of mind that there are other Americans that are unjustly being held in places around the world, and we will never stop fighting for their beliefs. As Vice President, it has been my honor to work alongside our President, Joe Biden, to bring home more than 70 Americans. In the last three and a half years. And we will never waver in our commitment to bring home every American who has been wrongfully detained or held hostage. That is my follow commitment to my fellow Americans, that will always honor.
Following her comments, Harris immediately walked away declining to take any questions from the press. Social media erupted in criticism after he comments, where one user wrote, “She cannot talk without written script. IMO she drifts off subject and loses it. She will fail immensely if she is forced to have an open debate with DJT, without pre-prepared written script to read from. Because IMO she stands for nothing.”

Other users highlighted how Harris would likely perform poorly on the debate stage against Donald Turmp. “Good. if the K camp wants her scripted, she will fall flat on her face come debate time. I say keep it up puppet masters. Keep thinking you’re the smartest ones in the room and you know what you’re doing,” they said.
“Unbelievable! Kamala Harris spends 30 minutes prepping to read scripted remarks and still avoids taking questions. This is not leadership—it’s hiding. The American people deserve transparency and real answers, not staged performances,” another critical user commented.
