According to reports, the recent release of “Deadpool & Wolverine” has smashed box office records, making it the highest-grossing R-rated opening in cinematic history. The movie raked in approximately $211 million in its domestic box office debut, making it the sixth-largest opening of all time. Notably, ticket sales outpaced Sunday’s record-breaking estimate of $205 million.
Furthermore, “Deadpool & Wolverine” has grossed roughly $444.3 million globally after three days of debuting in theaters. Variety reported that only a handful of other films have had higher earnings during their openings in the domestic box office. These titles include, “Avengers: Endgame” ($357 million), “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ($260 million), “Avengers: Infinity War” ($257 million), “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($247 million) and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” ($220 million).
In light of the film’s smashing success amid a litany of box office disappointments in the film industry, some have suggested “Deadpool & Wolverines” unprecedented reception among audiences because it delivers content that the fan base is legitimately interested in. Breitbart’s John Nolte wrote, “Gee, what a difference it makes when you deliver to your fan base rather than trying to expand your fan base with the kind of woket****ry that has killed countless franchises…”
Overall, the box office has significantly underperformed over the past several years. The year’s box office figures are 21 percent behind last year and an astounding 35 percent behind the pre-pandemic performance of 2019. Among the factors contributing to this decline, many have pointed out the seeming increase in blockbuster titles that prioritize politics in their content over entertainment.
According to conservative critics, The Walt Disney Company has been perhaps the greatest example of wokeness in the film industry. The American Tribune previously reported on comments from conservative commentator Megyn Kelly blasting the entertainment giant after it lost nearly $900 million in recent theatrical releases.
“Apparently, there’s an analysis out there showing that films like Lightyear, in which they decided to make Buzz Lightyear gay. The Little Mermaid, which is now woke…elemental, that’s one of the ones that includes a non-binary character which has one of the worst openings ever. Worst opening weekend in company history. We could go down the list,” Kelly said.
She added, “The people are not buying this content. They don’t want this content.” Kelly continued, “Bit by bit. All these media companies are eliminating and big, big tech companies are eliminating their heads of diversity because it’s just a wasted position where somebody just glorifies their wokeness and tries to lecture, so it’s failing.”

Activist Charlie Kirk called out the “$900 million bloodbath” at Disney. “Do we have things that lift us up where it tries to make us become better humans and, you know, talk about what is good and virtuous and beautiful and what is heroic and courageous and that really is what art at its best should be. And so you look at the box office this week, with almost no promotion total word of mouth. The number one movie in America right now is Sound of Freedom, which is an amazing story about anti-child sex trafficking beat Indiana Jones beat, all of this, and so Disney’s $900 million bloodbath, I think is only beginning,” he said.
