Professional football player Aaron Rodgers recently sounded off on American politics as a “sham” during a podcast appearance earlier this month. In recent years, Rodgers has become much more vocal about his political opinions, having criticized COVID-19 vaccines and speaking out as a strong supporter of Independent Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Rodgers made the comments during an interview with the hosts of “Pardon My Take.” Recent events, such as the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump and Biden dropping out of the presidential race, have likely fueled Rodgers’ disdain for the current state of American politics. Rodgers cited numerous instances over the past few years to substantiate his “sham” remark, especially the challenges Robert F. Kennedy Jr. faced.
“Politics, I’ve said from the beginning, is an absolute sham,” Rodgers asserted. “And if we’ve seen anything, whether what they did to Bernie Sanders in 2016, that we saw in the (John) Podesta emails or the fact that nothing really ever changes … all they talk about is what they’re gonna do and then life doesn’t actually get better for any of us – whether it’s a Republican or a Democrat. And we’re still doing the same f***ing two-party system. Not letting Bobby get in or anybody else.”
Rodgers honed in on RFK Jr., to whom he was reportedly considered a potential running mate in his 2024 election bid. The standout quarterback illustrated the “ridiculous” hurdles an independent candidate must overcome just to appear on the ballot alongside Republican and Democratic candidates. Rodgers blasted the process as a “f*cking joke.”
“We have Bobby, who doesn’t even get a chance to be in the debates. If you knew the insides of how ridiculous it is for a third-party candidate to get on the ballots in 50 states – it’s a f*cking sham,” he said. “It’s certain colors in some states. There’s certain people you gotta submit it to in other states. It’s a certain amount of votes in certain states. It’s a f*cking joke.”
As mentioned, RFK Jr. considered having Rodgers run alongside him as his vice presidential candidate on the Independent ticket. However, Rodgers opted to stick with his career in sports. When asked about getting into politics at the national level, Rodgers stated, “Yeah, I thought about it. And then I just kept on living my life.”
Echoing a similar sentiment to Rodgers, many Americans have criticized Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race and endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as undemocratic and ignoring the interests of millions of voters. President Biden shocked the nation when he announced the move on Sunday afternoon, defying his previous commitment to staying in the race.
Biden posted on X, “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
