“The Squad,” that bastion of far-left, highly progressive Democrats in the national legislature, just went fully in support of Vice President Kamala Harris in a series of statements released after President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race just weeks before the Democratic National Convention and threw his support behind VP Harris.
Doing so, Biden posted on X, “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
One of those Squad members who threw support behind Vice President Harris was Rep. Jamaal Bowman of New York, the Squad member who recently lost his re-election primary race and whose loss led to AOC raging. Rep. Bowman said, “Now that President Biden has suspended his campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris is the most qualified and best choice to lead us forward.”
Further, in a statement, Bowman said, “It has been an honor to serve alongside President Joe Biden during my time in Congress. When Democrats had control of the house from 2020-2022, we had the most productive Congress in US history. President Biden championed historic legislation like the CHIPS and Science Act, the American Rescue Plan, the Inflation Reduction Act and so much more. While I have disagreed with the president on his approach to Gaza, there is no question that he has secured transformational wins for the American people. He ushered us through a global pandemic and invested in the working class people of this nation. At this pivotal moment in history, with a rogue right wing Supreme Court, the threat of a second Trump presidency, and Project 2025 looming, I am glad to see President Biden do what is best for our democracy by suspending his campaign and passing the torch. Now, I strongly believe that we must place our full support behind Vice President Kamala Harris.”
Supporting Harris in that statement, he said, “Vice President Harris is an exceptional leader who is best equipped to finish President Biden’s agenda including passing universal child care and paid leave for all, investing in economic equity, building affordable housing, and taxing the wealthy. I am also excited to see her execute her own transformational vision for the future of our democracy and our foreign policy. It’s time to come together and rally the nation in support of Vice President Harris as our next president. She is the best candidate to beat the disgraced former president. Let us all follow her guiding light.”
Far-left Squad member from Michigan Rep. Ilhan Omar joined in as well, writing, “Thank you, Mr. President. This was the president’s decision to make and I’m grateful for his years of service to our country. Thrilled to support @KamalaHarris as our Democratic nominee and remain committed to working alongside her to defeat Donald Trump in November.”
Squad member Cori Bush also joined in, breathlessly writing, “In these critical times where MAGA extremism and facism is determined to set us backwards, our number one goal needs to be to defeat Trump in November. I commend and thank President Biden for prioritizing our nation’s needs; a decision that I am sure was a difficult one. Since the start of President Biden’s transformative presidency, I have advocated for the Administration to deliver a progressive agenda that works for people in St. Louis and around the world. From successfully defeating Trump, to enacting the transformative American Rescue Plan, to forgiving over $100 billion in student debt, and pioneering the largest climate investments in history with the Inflation Reduction Act, President Biden has made historic achievements to help to deliver this agenda.”
She added, “Under his presidency, we’ve seen the dawn of the first major gun safety law in nearly 30 years, the landmark appointments of Black women to our courts, including the historic appointment of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, and the selection of Kamala Harris for Vice President of the United States-who he is fully endorsing for the Democratic nomination for President. The majority of voters across our country are unequivocal in their support for an agenda that recognizes the humanity of ALL people across the world, a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the genocide of Palestinians, student debt cancellation, living wages, affordable housing, and full reproductive freedom. With today’s announcement, Biden has signaled that he has heard and is listening to the voices of millions of voters. The decision to pass the torch to a new generation is a principled and necessary one.”
She concluded by saying, “In 2020, voters turned out to deliver Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to the White House. The people’s vote was a vote not only for President Biden, but a vote for Vice President Kamala Harris and her ability to defeat MAGA extremism across the country. When we say trust Black women, we mean it. Black women are the backbone of the Democratic Party and it is past time for us to lead our country forward. Kamala Harris is more than ready to lead at this moment. As we look forward to November, it is clear to me that Vice President Kamala Harris has the vision to carry this legacy forward, defeat Donald Trump, and I unequivocally endorse her for President of the United States.”
