WATCH: “The View” Co-Host Joy Behar Says It was “Un-Christian” for Trump to Say God Was Watching Over Him

In an angry series of rants on the Friday, July 19 broadcast of ABC’s “The View,” the various leftist co-hosts on the show freaked out over Trump’s nomination acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the night before. Particularly virulent in her criticism of the former president was Joy Behar, who said Trump’s claim about God protecting him was “un-Christian.”

Trump, as background, said he felt safe and secure because he knew that God was watching over all from above and was on his side. Trump said, speaking about feeling the Lord’s protection in the moment of danger, “There was blood pouring everywhere, and, yet, in a certain way, I felt very safe because I had God on my side.” He added that he is only here by the “Grace of Almighty God.”

Behar argued that Trump’s claim that God was watching out for him when he turned his head at just the right moment for the bullets from the assassin’s gun to hit his ear rather than his head was narcissistic and un-Christian. She claimed that only a narcissist would make such a claim, particularly given that firefighter and hero Corey Comperatore was killed in the same shooting.

Behar said, attempting to burnish her credentials as a Christian, “I want to point out one thing. I’m speaking to fellow Christians. I was raised Catholic. I’m a Christian girl. When something like this happens to you, like this assassination attempt, and you say something like ‘God was watching me,’ that is a very un-Christian thing to say because it’s very narcissistic.”

She continued with her rants about the former president’s comments, saying, “What about Corey – what’s his name? — Comperatore, the fireman who also got killed? What about all those guys that killed on — Sandy Hook, all of those people. Oh, God was watching me and not watching them? There’s something very disturbing about that.”

Cackling and chiming in, “The View” co-host Ana Navarro chimed in and joked about God acting in the world, saying, “God should’ve pulled the plug on that mic yesterday!” Behar, laughing as well at the idea of God intervening despite her supposed upbringing as a Christian, jumped back in and said, “Wait, God is a technician now?”

Former President Trump, in a statement released after the assassination attempt, wrote, “Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday, as it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening. We will FEAR NOT, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness.”

He also said, “Our love goes out to the other victims and their families.” He continued on that same note, saying, “We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed.”
