The Walt Disney Company is reportedly axing the long-time Disney World character Liver Lips McGrowl over fears that he might be perceived as “insensitive and outdated.” After 50 years of entertaining guests at the entertainment giant’s world-famous theme park, the character will be renamed so as not to offend alcoholics.
Liver Lips McGrowl serves alongside 18 other animatronic bears on the popular “Country Bear Jamboree” at Magic Kingdom. However, after a seven-month hiatus, the nearly five-decade-old character will reappear under a new monicker that fits in with Disney’s ever-more apparent woke agenda. The attraction was set to reopen this week on Wednesday.
The term “liver lips” is a pejorative term derived from the damaging effects of excessive consumption of alcohol on the liver. Clown World, a popular account on X that often calls out progressive cultural phenomenon, wrote, “Disney World removes Liver Lips McGrowl from the Country Bear Jamboree after 50 years, claiming he could offend alcoholics. ”
Another user commented under the post criticizing Disney’s political activism, writing, “Disney is dead! They have completely lost their way! They have been driving away families which made them successful in the first place. Disney’s political activism, bad story writing, and horrible content has damaged the brand beyond repair. It’s been fun to watch them fail lol.”
In recent years, Disney has generated substantial surrounding its involvement in U.S. politics and the culture war. The entertainment giant has engaged in political activism, such as when it opposed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ fight to protect parental rights in his state’s classrooms. Furthermore, Disney has caught backlash from conservative audiences for incorporating a woke agenda into its entertainment.
The American Tribune previously reported that Disney had lost nearly $900 million on its recent theatrical releases, which many conservatives have blamed on the company’s continued pursuit of politicizing its content. Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly sounded off on Disney over its slew of recent “woke movie flops.”
“Apparently, there’s an analysis out there showing that films like Lightyear, in which they decided to make Buzz Lightyear gay. The Little Mermaid, which is now woke…elemental, that’s one of the ones that includes a non-binary character which has one of the worst openings ever. Worst opening weekend in company history. We could go down the list,” Kelly said.
She added that consumers are turned off by the content, stating, “The people are not buying this content. They don’t want this content.” Kelly further claimed that companies are waking up to the reality that DEI is not compatible with a strong business model asserting, “Bit by bit. All these media companies are eliminating and big, big tech companies are eliminating their heads of diversity because it’s just a wasted position where somebody just glorifies their wokeness and tries to lecture, so it’s failing.” Watch Kelly below:
Earlier this year, Disney CEO Bob Iger came out defending the company amid the conservative backlash, maintaining that entertaining its audiences is the number one priority. “I’ve been preaching this for a long time at the company before I left and since I came back that our No. 1 goal is to entertain. I think, like, the term woke is thrown around rather liberally, no pun intended in that regard. I think a lot of people don’t even understand really what it means,” Iger said.
