California Governor Gavin Newsom, one of the farthest lest governors in America, just spoke to ABC News and, during the interview, raised the alarm over Brandon’s border policy, warning that California is already about to break thanks to the crisis and things could get a whole lot worse without Title 42, a Trump Era immigration policy that Team Biden plans on revoking soon.
Speaking to ABC News on Title 42 and California’s critical situation, Newsom said “The fact is, what we’ve got right now is not working and is about to break in a post-42 world unless we take some responsibility and ownership.”
Newsom didn’t use that to call for a halt to all immigration, or even illegal immigration, but rather tried to frame himself as being “compassionate” and “part of the solution” when viewing and attempting to deal with the illegal immigration situation, saying: “I’m saying that as a father. I’m saying that as someone that feels responsible for being part of the solution and I’m trying to do my best here.”
Newsom then went on to argue that “more and more” migrants are being sent to California because of the Golden State’s generous policies toward those migrants state is “taking care of folks.” Perhaps he never read the “don’t feed the bears” signs in his state’s beautiful state and national parks, or if he did, didn’t take the proper lesson from them. “Taking care of folks” just leads to more of those “folks” showing up and expecting you’ll start “taking care of” them.
Continuing with the complaining about what’s happening in California because it’s been feeding the bears, so to speak, Newsom said “The more we do, the burden is placed disproportionate on us. We’re already at capacity at nine of our sites. We can’t continue to fund all of these sites because of the budgetary pressures now being placed on this state and the offsetting issues that I have to address.… The reality is, unless we’re doing what we’re doing, people will end up on the streets.”
But while Newsom complained about what is happening in California, he didn’t side with Republicans on the illegal immigration issue and instead decided to attack them, for, in his view, deciding to “exploit the situation”. In his words:
“Instead of working on real reform, the response from Republicans has been to exploit the situation at our border for political gain. California has invested roughly $1 billion over the past three years to support the health and safety of migrants as well as the surrounding border communities, but we cannot continue to do this work alone.
“It is long past time for Republicans in Congress to engage on real solutions to meet the public safety, public health and humanitarian issues at our border and in our immigration system.”
So Newsom senses that there’s a major problem, but doesn’t grasp what’s required to fix it, particularly if the fix isn’t “nice”. So we’ll see what happens as California starts to “break” under the burden of Biden’s policies.
