Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico, who, like Trump, has also survived an attempt on his life, blamed the opponents of the presumptive GOP nominee for inciting the attack against him at his Pennsylvania rally on Saturday. Fico alleged that the incident was a “carbon copy” of what he endured, blasting the media and political opposition for creating a hostile atmosphere toward the former president.
In May, Fico survived being shot multiple times in the abdomen by a radical activist, to which the populist prime minister re-emerged back onto the political scene. Weighing in on the shocking assassination attempt against Trump, Fico claimed it was “scripted like through a carbon copy [paper].” Fico ultimately suggested it was the plan of Trump’s enemies for the attack to be waged against him.
The prime minister continued in his Facebook post, “If the striker on the D. Trump knew Slovak, it would be enough for him to read the newspaper N, Sme or Aktuality, so that he would have the desire to “make things right” with the disobedient former president of the USA. Scripted like through a copybook. Political Opponents of D. They are trying to shut Trump up and when they don’t work out, they piss the public off so much that some loser picks up a gun. And now we shall witness speeches about the need for reconciliation, appeasement and forgiveness..”
Just days before the perilous Pennsylvania rally, Fico wrote about the hostility toward populist politicians. “We operate in an atmosphere that when it is impossible to democratically defeat us, we need to be illegally locked up. If it doesn’t work, some activist needs to be provoked to [attempt assassination]. Working in such an atmosphere is not easy, but we can manage it,” he said, per Breitbart.
During Prime Minister Fico’s assassination on May 15th, a radical activist approached him and shot him several times at point blank range, landing shots on his gut, hip, arm, leg and his small intestine which was punctured five times. Fico faced life-threatening injuries from the shooting, where he almost died during emergency surgery efforts.
The culprit of the attack was a 71-year-old poet who was allegedly disgruntled with Fico’s stance on the war between Russia and Ukraine, in which the prime minister advocates for a peaceful resolution in the conflict instead of escalating global military involvement. The assassin was arrested on the scene and eventually confessed to the attempted murder.
Former President Donald Trump addressed the attempted assassination on Saturday evening on Truth Social. After thanking law enforcement, Trump offered his condolences to the family members of the Trump supporter who was shot and killed at the rally. He recounted the moment one of the shots grazed his ear, nearly striking him in the head.
“I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!” Trump wrote.
