In the wake of his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump, Joe Biden has fielded ongoing criticism regarding the state of his mental health. Amid calls from within his party for the president to step down, Biden has gone on the defensive, emphasizing that he is a capable leader who will appear on the ballot in November.
President Biden recently took to X, writing, “Let me say this as clearly as I can: I’m the sitting President of the United States,” rebuking criticism that he is not mentally fit to fulfill the duties bestowed on the commander-in-chief. Following this post, the official X account for the hit TV show “The Sopranos” posted a hilarious response to President Biden, showing a picture of James Gandolfini’s character, Tony Soprano, accompanied with the text, “If you gotta keep saying you’re the boss, you’re not the boss.”
Following the debate disaster, many Democrats are scrambling to navigate the political crisis on their hands as the country moves closer to the election. The American Tribune reported on post-debate commentary from CNN suggesting that liberals have descended into an “aggressive panic” in light of Joe Biden’s performance.
CNN host John King said, “Anderson, this was a game-changing debate in the sense that right now as we speak, there is a deep, a wide, and a very aggressive panic in the Democratic Party. It started minutes into the debate and it continues right now. It involves party strategists; it involves elected officials; it involves fundraisers. And they’re having conversations about the president’s performance, which they think was dismal, which they think will hurt other people down the party in the ticket and they’re having conversations about what they should do about it.”
King further outlined how there are allegedly high-level conversations within the Democratic Party about the possible replacement of Joe Biden, which could include directly confronting the president with such a proposition. The host also suggested a potential scenario where fellow Democrats publicly call for Biden to step aside for a more viable candidate.
He added, “Some of those conversations include should we go to the White House and asked the president step aside? Others are, other the conversations are about should prominent Democrats go public with that call. But because they feel this debate was so terrible, they do say in moments in a debate later, the president got better and got his footing. But then at the end, even his closing statement was a little halting.”
In other Sopranos-related conservatism, The Tribune reported earlier this year on remarks from actress Drea de Matteo, who played Adriana La Cerva in the show. She criticized the Biden administration, claiming that many of her colleagues in Hollywood feel the same way, but are afraid to endure the political backlash they would endure for speaking out. The actress said, “And once I was out there, I was like, ‘I’m out here, what am I going to do? I’m out of my cage.’ Like, I may as well just, you know, do what I got to do.” After noting she has been supported by her boyfriend, God, and her children, she said, “they believe in what we believe in, which is freedom and unity the right way, not unity the way this administration was trying to push. That was bulls***.”
