Over the past few years, Republicans have criticized the consumer landscape, which seems to have become increasingly hostile toward conservative values as companies continually espouse their support for leftist political agendas. However, recent reports indicate that Tractor Supply Co. backtracked its woke initiatives amid backlash from conservative activists.
The rural retailer, known for selling farm equipment and related goods, is known for a rural, blue-collar consumer base that would hardly be interested in the woke ideology touted by the coastal elites in America. As a result, Tractor Supply is pulling back on its liberal company initiatives.
The company released a statement expressing its commitment to its customers and communities. “Every day our 50,000 Team Members take care of our customers like family,” according to a company statement. “We deeply value our relationship with our customers and the communities we call home.”
Furthermore, Tractor Supply further noted that it has invested millions into conservative-driven organizations such as “veteran causes, emergency response, animal shelters, state fairs, rodeos and farmers markets.” The company continued, “We have also invested in the future of rural America. We are the largest supporter of FFA and have longstanding relationships with 4-H and other educational organizations.”
Reportedly, the company acknowledged backlash from online conservative activists, such as Robby Starbuck who organized a campaign that got Tractor Supply’s attention, calling out the company’s misaligned corporate values. “Going forward, we will ensure our activities and giving tie directly to our business,” the company said.
The farm equipment retailer listed several resolutions that would address the conservative backlash, such as eliminating DEI efforts in the company, abandoning carbon emissions goals, and more. See a list of the actions Tractor Supply will be taking below:
-
No longer submit data to the Human Rights Campaign
-
Refocus our Team Member Engagement Groups on mentoring, networking and supporting the business
-
Further focus on rural America priorities including ag education, animal welfare, veteran causes and being a good neighbor and stop sponsoring nonbusiness activities like pride festivals and voting campaigns
-
Eliminate DEI roles and retire our current DEI goals while still ensuring a respectful environment
-
Withdraw our carbon emission goals and focus on our land and water conservation efforts
Following the news, users on social media celebrated the win, demonstrating that, at least with some companies, conservatives can influence corporate decision-making to better align with the interests of their customer base.
“This is a huge win and proof that major brands are recognizing that going woke is bad for business — a big change from 5 years ago,” Andrew Surabian, an advisor to Donald Trump Jr., posted on X. “Credit to Tractor Supply for changing course and doing the right thing.”
Jeremy Redfern, press secretary for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, wrote on X, “Cutting off the @HRC , supporting causes that make a difference, eliminating DEI, focusing on conservation. Very based.” Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) commented on the matter, “. @TractorSupply deserves a lot of credit for recognizing the need for major course correction. I hope other companies will follow their lead and totally abandon all the woke garbage that has rotted corporate America.”
