Speaking after the Thursday, June 27 presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden, the co-hosts of the leftist “Pod Save America” podcast, former Obama Administration aides, melted down over the disaster that was President Biden’s performance during the debate. In fact, it was so bad that they called it a “f***ing disaster.”
Among those who spoke about the matter was former head speechwriter for former President Barack Obama, Jon Favreau, who said that he wouldn’t “sugarcoat” how badly President Biden did during the debate. He attacked Trump as well, calling him a “threat to democracy” and “despicable,” but admitted that Biden was a “disaster.”
Favreau said, speaking about the debate and potential for another Trump presidency, “You don’t listen to us to sugarcoat anything, I think it was a fucking disaster. I think it was like the worst debate I’d ever seen in my entire life. Donald Trump is a threat to democracy, Donald Trump is just a despicable human being, he should not be president.”
He continued, commenting further in much the same hysteric way on those same topics, “We have to do literally everything we possibly can to make sure he is not president again and that is why it was so fucking awful because Joe Biden just in every single way failed at that debate. And, I don’t know what else to say there … but it was a disaster.”
Joining in, co-host Tommy Vietor, who served as a spokesperson for President Barack Obama and the United States National Security Council from 2011 to 2012, said that the disaster of President Biden’s performance was extremely problematic in that it “exacerbated” already present concerns about his advanced age and diminishing cognitive capacity.
Also commenting on the matter was co-host Dan Pfeiffer, a senior advisor to President Barack Obama for strategy and communications from 2013 to 2015. He said, “And I believe that tonight’s performance is not a reflection on the type of president that he is. But it is a very concerning piece of evidence about the kind of candidate he will be in this race. Because you need to ultimately be able to defend your record and make the case against Trump.”
Additionally, co-host Jon Lovett, who served as a speechwriter, said that Biden failed dramatically in the debate, saying, “The most important job that Joe Biden has as President of the United States is to beat Donald Trump and unfortunately, he went into this debate, he was behind. His job was to overcome that dynamic and change it.”
Lovett added, “He emphasized it, and for the same sense of decency, and empathy and patriotism that led Joe Biden to run, I believe this is a moment to at least have a big, open conversation about the best thing he can do for America is to end his presidency as the success it deserves to be on whether or not he should step aside and already … because the stakes are so high, you see people afraid to have that conversation, and fine. But what I don’t appreciate is people immediately saying well, we know Joe Biden won’t step aside. We know Joe Biden won’t do this, won’t do that. I don’t know what Joe Biden’s gonna do.”
