The latest leaks from Elon Musk’s “Twitter Files” dump reveals that former First Lady Michelle Obama likely contributed to the eventual deplatforming of then-sitting president Donald Trump, according to the journalist who received exclusive access to the documents, Michel Schellenberger.
Michelle Obama penned a lengthy letter to Twitter executives pleading with them to silence the man whom she viewed as leading an insurrection.

“Now is the time for Silicon Valley companies to stop enabling this monstrous behavior—and go even further than they have already by permanently banning this man from their platforms and putting in place policies to prevent their technologies from being used by the nation’s leaders to fuel insurrection,” Obama wrote. “And if we have any hope of improving this nation, now is the time for swift and serious consequences for the failure of leadership that led to yesterday’s shame.”
Fox News reported on Schellenberger’s revelatory thread, writing that the permanent ban ultimately occurred two days after the events of January 6th and at a time when then-CEO Jack Dorsey had even hinted at allowing Trump to return as part of the company’s policies. Trump was banned by the platform while Dorsey was on vacation.
On the morning of Jan. 7, then-Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey wrote an email to employees instructing them, as Shellenberger wrote: “to remain consistent in its policies, including the right of users to return to Twitter after a temporary suspension.”
Trump was serving a suspension on the platform at the time.
The files also showed Twitter maintained a policy — called “Public-interest exceptions” — where elected officials were not banned as there was a great public interest in their comments, even if they seemed to violate other policies.
While Donald Trump has since been restored to Twitter thanks to new owner Elon Musk constantly reinstating formerly banned accounts, the 45th president has yet to issue a tweet. Trump has previously stated he would remain on his Truth Social social media platform. It has also been suggested he is contractually obligated to post on Truth before Twitter.
As for former First Lady Obama, there is rank hypocrisy in her treatment of Trump and his supporters for their alleged roles in January 6th. Whereas she viewed the single-day episode as a threat to democracy, she was perfectly fine with – and in fact vociferously supported – the months-long destruction wrought at the hands of the BLM rioting that took place throughout 2020.
The Post Millennial noted that Obama repeatedly downplayed the looting and violence, calling such criminality a quest for “racial solidarity” and claiming Donald Trump’s reaction to BLM mayhem as being rooted in “racist” reactionary impulses. The Post Millennial wrote:
In her message [in response to Trump’s criticism of BLM riots] to Twitter, Obama falsely claimed that the BLM riots of 2020 were “peaceful protests.”
She wrote, “Seeing the gulf between the responses to yesterday’s riot and this summer’s peaceful protests and the larger movement for racial justice is so painful. It hurts.”
The BLM riots of 2020 caused upwards of 30 deaths, multiple injuries, and over 1 billion dollars in damage.
In October of 2020, Michelle Obama said Trump was racist for pointing out the violence of the BLM riots.
She said, “pinning (violence) on what’s been an overwhelmingly peaceful movement for racial solidarity; it’s true, research backs it up; only a tiny fraction of demonstrations have had any violence at all. So What the president is doing is patently false, morally wrong, and yes, it is racist.”
