Things got hilarious on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on the morning of Monday, June 24, when a co-host of the program, Joe Scarborough, spiraled down and lost it over a comment that former President Donald Trump made at the Faith and Freedom Coalition conference in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, June 22 about Al Sharpton.
Trump, for reference, took the stage to address faith-focused voters at the conference and commented on the current military tendency to rename bases that had been named after Confederate generals in the spirit of reconcilliation after the Civil War. He commented that the Army is renaming bases things like “Fort Al Sharpton.”
Former President Trump said,“We saved the world with from those forts and now they decided to take the names off and what do you see ultimately what happens with those names? They did, I call it a transition, like transitioning. They have a transition name before they name it. The Reverend Al Sharpton Fort. (Laughter) Fort, Fort Rev, Fort Al Sharpton.”
Joe Scarborough absolutely lost it over that comment. He first accused Trump of losing “seven years in a row,” though what he meant by that was unclear given that Trump won in 2016. “‘They’re sick?’ They’re sick! No, they don’t like losers. They don’t like losers, Donald. I know you like losers. You like losing. You’ve lost seven years in a row,” Scarborough snapped.
Continuing his angry rant about the GOP allegedly losing, he said, “I don’t know if you know, but because of you, your party lost in 2017. Your party lost in 2018. Your party lost in 2019. Your party lost in 2020. Your party lost in 2021. Your party lost in 2022. Your party lost in 2023. If the past is prologue, your party’s gonna lose in 2024.”
Scarborough then started ranting about why it’s a great thing that the Army bases are being renamed, saying, “So yeah, there are a lot of people in the south. Southerners like myself. We don’t really like naming forts after losers. That’s not ‘transitioning.’ That’s like, we don’t wanna name forts after American patriots who win wars. Donald, maybe you should see the beginning of Patton.”
Still not done with the rant, Scarborough claimed that the Confederate officers and soldiers after whom the bases were named were just “losers” like Trump, angrily ranting, “So, you wanna name forts after losers? After Confederate soldiers? Confederate generals that rebelled against the United States of America? That’s you.”
He also claimed that “Fort Sharpton” would be a great name for a fort, snapping, “Reverend Al, I’ll take a Fort Sharpton. That sounds nice! It sounds nice. About an America, about a military moving toward a more perfect union, and not stuck in its slaveholding past. Like poor Donald there wants us to be stuck in the mid-1800s.”
