Pop star Taylor Swift recently generated controversy after some of her explicit, feminist-charged lyrics have gone viral during a recent concert. In recent years, Swift has conjured criticism from conservatives as the musician increasingly inserts herself into politics and the culture war.
Cultural commentator Mary Morgan uploaded the footage of Swift’s live performance to X, where she wrote, “Taylor swift got her audience of 88k fans to scream “F*** THE PATRIARCHY” at her concert yesterday … lady, you are a billionaire. get your head checked.”
She highlighted how it is seemingly nonsensical for Swift to suggest there is a patriarchal system holding back women when she has amassed a net worth of $1.3 billion as a female. Morgan further indicated that such inappropriate commentary from Swift could dissuade parents from taking their younger children to see the pop icon perform. “I’ve seen plenty of cute videos of dads who bring their daughters to taylor swift concerts – they’re bonding, i get that. but after seeing this idk man,” she commented.
Another user pointed out that aside from Swift’s enormous success as a billionaire entertainer, women have been incredibly successful throughout the past generation, assuming prominent stations within Western Society. The user suggested that if one truly wanted to observe a patriarchal society, one should visit the Middle East.
“Taylors really been opressed by this Patriarchy in which my Entire life American women have been Senators , Governors, Reps, Drs , Astronauts , Pilots, CEOs etc . Afghani women can’t have opinions, no offense but American Feminists , Go to the Mid east,” they wrote.
Another person called out the singer, who allegedly claims to be a Christian, for rebelling against the natural order prescribed by the Bible. They encouraged Swift to repent and “stop pretending to be a Christian” where she has a platform that could serve as a role model to millions of fans.
She is supposedly a Christian? Who in their right mind thinks it is a good thing to go against God’s order? God made Adam, put him to sleep, took one his his ribs, and then brought Eve to Adam as his wife!!! Am I missing something here? Hello? Read the Holy Bible and determine if I am right for yourself, but my understanding is that a patriarchy is the father’s line and leadership. A matriarchal is the same, but for a mother,” the disgruntled user said. Watch the controversial moment during the concert below:
They continued, “I say pick a side Taylor Swift, stop pretending to be a Christian, if you dont really believe, because your actions and words are deceptive, and setting a bad example. You are a role model, although, seemingly lukewarm, please, repent, and get right, with the Lord sister. I will be praying for you as well.
The American Tribune reported last month on other criticism Swift has received from the Christian community, calling out the “darker turn” in the singer’s newer music. Evangelical preacher Shane Pruitt called on Christians to reconsider listening to Taylor Swift, arguing that her lyrics are becoming increasingly misaligned with Christian principles.
