Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) recently criticized former President Donald Trump during a rant on the congressional floor. The California Democrat suggested that Trump’s supporters have become the “immoral majority.”
Schiff’s critical comments toward Trump follow his controversial conviction in the hush money case brought against him by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The presumptive Republican nominee was found guilty on all 34 felony counts relating to the falsification of business records in connection to the hush money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
In his speech, Schiff made it a point to say “guilty” 34 times for each of the counts he was convicted on. Since the stunt, the Democratic representative has been met with intense backlash from his Republican counterparts.
During Schiff’s commentary, he directly called out Trump supporters, claiming their political affiliations with him draw into question the party’s moral character. He said, “The party, formally of the moral majority, is now I suppose trying to fashion some kind of immoral majority to reinstate Donald Trump as president.”
Schiff further disparaged the sentiment among conservatives that Trump’s prosecution was politically motivated and that the charges brought against the former president should have been misdemeanors instead of felonies.
“My Republican colleagues don’t really contest Donald Trump’s guilt,” Schiff stated. “This is the fascinating thing. Their argument is essentially he should never have been prosecuted. Or they falsely claim it was a political prosecution. Or they falsely claim it should have been a misdemeanor not a felony. But they don’t contest, not really, that Donald Trump was making hush money payments to a porn star to hide their affair from voters.”
The California Democrat slammed Trump supporters for wanting to vote for Trump on account that he made the hush money payments to Daniels. He added, “What they’re really saying is they’re more than comfortable electing, nominating, and electing as the President of the United States someone making hush money payments to a porn star. The party formerly of the moral majority is now, I suppose, hoping to fashion some kind of immoral majority to reinstate Donald Trump as President.” Watch Schiff’s remarks below:
The American Tribune reported on comments from former President Donald Trump outside the New York City courthouse following his conviction in the hush money trial. He maintained his innocence while blasting the “rigged trial,” maintaining that he would continued fighting for the country and the values upheld by the constitution. Trump said:
“This was a disgrace. This was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge who was corrupt. It’s a rigged trial, a disgrace. They wouldn’t give us a venue change. We were at 5% or 6% in this district, in this area, this was a rigged, disgraceful trial. The real verdict is going to be November 5, by the people. And they know what happened here, and everybody knows what happened here. You have a Soros-backed DA and the whole thing, we didn’t do a thing wrong. I’m a very innocent man, and it’s okay. I’m fighting for our country. I’m fighting for our Constitution. Our whole country is being rigged right now. This was done by the Biden administration in order to wound or hurt an opponent, a political opponent, and I think it’s just a disgrace. And we’ll keep fighting. We’ll fight till the end, and we’ll win because our country’s gone to hell. We don’t have the same country anymore. We have a divided mess we’re nation in decline, serious decline. Millions and millions of people pouring into our country right now from prisons and from mental institutions, terrorists and they’re taking over our country. We have a country that’s in big trouble, but this was a rigged decision, right from day one, with a conflicted judge who should have never been allowed to try this case, never, and we will fight for our Constitution. This is long from over. Thank you very much.”
