Resurfaced footage from 2022 has called into question the power dynamic at the White House. A viral video on X shows what appears to be former President Barrack Obama stealing the show from President Biden at a White House event.
The footage shows Obama standing beside Vice President Kamala Harris, shaking hands and engaging with a group of people in a lively conversation. Meanwhile, President Biden stands behind Obama, seemingly trying to get his attention, even placing his hand on the former president’s shoulder. However, Obama doesn’t even seem to acknowledge Biden.
The footage has fueled speculation as to the extent that Barrack Obama is still wielding his influence over American politics, despite having stepped away from politics after his second term ended when Trump was inaugurated. One user on X commented, “Mainly because Obama is actually running the country.” Another person added, “That’s why I call him O’Biden. Because Biden is an empty shell Totally Controlled by Obama.”
“To be upstaged like that by his former boss is so cruel. Biden can’t get a word in edgewise or even establish eye contact with anyone. These optics make it clear in no uncertain terms who the real power is behind the throne,” one person wrote. Another replied, “Former boss??? Don’t you see who’s the boss?”
Former President Obama even joked with comedian Stephen Colbert that he would be “fine with a third term” if someone could be a “stand-in with an earpiece.” Obama told Colbert during the 2020 interview, I said this before. People would ask me, “Knowing what you know now, do you wish you had a third term?” And I used to say, “You know what? If I could make an arrangement where I had a stand-in, a front man or front woman, and they had an earpiece in and I was just in my basement in my sweats looking through the stuff, and then I could sort of deliver the lines, but somebody else was doing all the talking and ceremony, I’d be fine with that.”
The American Tribune reported earlier this year on Obama’s alleged concerns about Trump’s reelection prospects. Since then, he has consistently called President Biden to provide his assistance. Reports indicate that Democratic strategists are leaning on Obama’s influence to bolster Biden’s support among the liberal base.
“No one can speak to disillusioned Democrats better than President Obama,” an anonymous senior strategist who has worked closely with Obama and Biden told CNN. “But there are limits to what Obama can do. The burden to win this race is still on President Biden.” Watch the resurfaced video of the White House incident below:
Furthermore, former Obama campaign manager Jim Messina, who has worked extensively with the Biden campaign, said that Obama intends to assist the Biden-Harris campaign as much as he possibly can in the upcoming rematch against Donald Trump.
“President Obama once said to me that every president is a reflection of the previous president, and he’s right,” Messina stated. “Trump was the complete opposite of Obama, and Biden is the complete opposite of Trump. Being the president of the United States means you’re part of a small club; there is no other group of people whose red flags about the direct threat of Donald Trump should be taken more seriously.”
