Former White House press secretary Jenn Psaki recently claimed that former President Donald Trump wasn’t necessarily running for office to make America great again but rather to stay out of prison amid the legal battles he faces.
Psaki disputed the basis of Trump’s MAGA platform, which suggests that America is straying from its core values and ideals while descending into dysfunction. Therefore, she painted Trump as a figure who expresses disdain toward the country while Biden, on the other hand, loves America.
Psaki said, “I mean, in stark contrast with President, Biden Donald, Trump is selling an apocalyptic vision of America, and he’s hoping that the voters forget the values that have long made our country great. Trump sees a path to victory not by celebrating the country he wants to lead, but by denigrating it.”
Psaki then played a compilation of the former President illustrating how the United States is struggling in a variety of interviews and speeches. “We’ve become a failing nation. We’re a nation that’s in tremendous trouble. Our country is going to hell. We’re the failed nation. This is a failing nation right now, and it’s going it’s only getting worse. We have a very sick country. We’re a failed nation,” Trump said in the clips.
According to the former press secretary, Trump’s motivations are not to save America as he often claims. Instead she suggests that they are far more self-interested and a means to keep him out of prison, as he has been incessantly prosecuted ahead of the election.
She continued, “The truth that Donald Trump couldn’t really care less about preserving the values that the United States has long stood for through many Presidents of both parties. This campaign isn’t about preserving our freedom. It’s about preserving his own it’s not about upholding American greatness. It’s about staying out of prison.”
Psaki further claimed the Republican Party has abandoned its traditional view of “pride and optimism” toward the state of America. “This is why the country Trump describes is virtually unrecognizable from the one described by Reagan and Biden and many, many presidents in between. Remember, the Republican Party is the party that once spoke glowingly of American exceptionalism, that pride and optimism from the top, though, is now long gone in a party,” she added. In a further attempt to characterize Trump as a figure who lacks pride for his country, Psaki brought up an unproven accusation that he labeled fallen service members “sucker and losers” during his presidency.
“I mean, Trump is the same guy who couldn’t be bothered to pay his respects at an American Cemetery in France, the very same one. By the way, the President Biden visited just this spring, Trump is the same guy who called the veterans who sacrificed their lives suckers and losers. That’s a direct quote. Just let that sink in for a moment.”
She concluded with a comparison of the Trump and Biden, allowing her favoritism toward the latter shine through. “So right now, we’re five months away from the presidential election, and there’s a big choice out there between one candidate who knows America is already great, and another who calls it a failure. One who honors our allies, and one who Herald, our enemies, one who wants to uphold the legacy of D-Day as many presidents have, and one who wants to squander it,” she said.
