According to recent reports, the latest Star Wars show under Disney’s umbrella, “The Acolyte,” has attained some of the worst ratings in the franchise’s history. Since the entertainment giant acquired the rights to Star Wars in 2012, many have criticized Disney for purportedly ruining one of the greatest franchises in entertainment history.
Per Rotten Tomatoes, “The Acolyte” received an outrageously low audience score, which is uncharacteristic of the wildly popular franchise with a loyal fanbase. At the time of writing this article, the show’s first season has a solid critic rating of 85% from 116 reviews. However, based on over 5,000 audience scores, the show comes in at an abysmal 26%.
A recent Forbes report ranked the Star Wars franchise based on audience score and accompanying critic score. “The Acolyte,” with an audience score of 33% and a critic score of 93%, was ranked second to last, just in front of the infamous “Holiday Special.”

Notably, Leslye Headland, the creator of the newest Star Wars show and lead actress Amanda Stenberg, laughed and joked during a recent interview that “The Acolyte” is the “gayest Star Wars yet.” Many have claimed this is another example of post-Disney Star Wars being woke.
According to estimates, Disney’s financial losses on its recent theatrical releases total nearly $900 million. The American Tribune reported on comments from conservative commentator Megyn Kelly, who slammed the entertainment giant for inserting a woke agenda into its content, supposedly contributing to the flops.
“Apparently, there’s an analysis out there showing that films like Lightyear, in which they decided to make Buzz Lightyear gay. The Little Mermaid, which is now woke…elemental, that’s one of the ones that includes a non-binary character which has one of the worst openings ever. Worst opening weekend in company history. We could go down the list,” Kelly said.
She maintained that “people are not buying this content. They don’t want this content.” Kelly further claimed that companies are finally beginning to realize that “wokeness” does not translate to a successful business model, where many DEI positions are being slashed.
