On Monday evening, President Biden delivered remarks on the White House lawn following a concert commemorating the upcoming Juneteenth holiday. However, like many of Biden’s public speaking engagements, he seemed to struggle through his speech.
Conservatives across social media honed in on one moment where the president badly slurred through a sentence, where several words were indecipherable. As the election approaches, incidents like this add to concerns around Biden’s cognitive health and whether he is fit for a second term.
Nick Sortor, a conservative commentator, shared a clip of the incident on his X account where he attempted to transcribe Biden’s words. “She no long! She new sllunasuhhijuhnide our freedom can never be secured.” I give this guy a month. It’s over,” he wrote.
Some have recently speculated that the Democratic Party could be scheming to replace President Biden amid evidence of his deteriorating mental and physical state at 81 years old. Already the oldest sitting president in U.S. history, Biden would be 86 by the time he left the White House if he were to be reelected.
One user commented under Sortor’s post, “He’s gonna “have a bad fall” and he’s gonna be magically shuffled off to the nursing home and they’ll bring Gavin Newsom out of the bullpen? Is that how this is going down?”
Another person added, “I don’t wish any ill upon him, but I do not believe he will make it through a second term. A vote for Biden is a vote for Kamala, and the Left really doesn’t care because they will just take the strings off of Joe and attach them to her.”
One user questioned how the White House would clean up the transcript. “Can’t wait to see the “official transcript” since we know the White House edits and cleans up 100% of his errors, sometimes so many that the recorded speech has no resemblance to the transcript,” they wrote. Watch the clip of Biden below:
The president opened his speech, “The White House never seen him like this before. That was outstanding. Thanks to all the performers here tonight to help us feel the power of black culture that is American culture, for the fitting tribute to Juneteenth.”
Biden further discussed how he designated Juneteenth a federal holiday, maintaining that it was not simply an empty gesture, but a “statement of faith.” “I was proud to have made Juneteenth the Federal holiday. I’m grateful to the members of Congress are here today who helped make it possible. I’m not going to start to name them, because I’ll miss somebody. But it wasn’t just a symbolic gesture with a statement of fact. It was about a statement of faith,” he said.
Later in his speech, Biden appeared to attack conservatives who he labeled “ghosts in new garments” that are allegedly trying to infringe upon the right to vote as well as attacking DEI. “But let’s be clear, they’re all ghosts in new garments trying to take us back. Well, there are taking away your freedoms. Make it harder for black people to vote or have your vote counted, closing doors of opportunity, attacking the values of diversity, equity and inclusion.”
