Despite her incredible performance on the WNBA so for this year, much-liked women’s basketball star Caitlin Clark was snubbed from the Olympics Team. Despite that, she didn’t get into the cesspit of the league and the abuse hurled her way when she was asked about the Olympics situation. Instead, she took the high road and was praised for it.
She said, as ‘the Athletic reported, that she excited for those who will be on the team and admitted that the selection process for it is extremely competitive, saying, “I’m excited for the girls who are on the team. I know it’s the most competitive team in the world and I know it could’ve gone either way – me being on the team, me not being on the team.”
Continuing, she explained that she is excited to watch the contest regardless of her not being on the team, as she grew up enjoying watching Olympic competitions and will keep doing so. She said, “So, I’m excited for them. I’m going to be rooting them on to win gold. I was a kid that grew up watching the Olympics. So, yeah, it’ll be fun to watch them.”
She then said that she is treating the potential to be on the team in the future as something to work toward, saying, “No disappointment. I think it just gives you something to work for. That’s a dream. Hopefully, one day I can be there. I think it’s just a little more motivation. You remember that. And hopefully in four years, when four years comes back around, I can be there.”
Watch Clark here:
Sports commentator Clay Travis wrote about the situation on X and praised Clark for taking the high road, saying, “Caitlin Clark takes the high road here on getting left off the Olympic team, but I honestly can’t think of a dumber move for a sport trying to grow its fan base than this. Whine about no attention for decades, finally get it, and then blow it like this.”
He added, scorching the WNBA in very non-PC terms, “Many of these women’s basketball players, coaches and execs would rather have a tiny league no one watches dominated by black lesbians than have a much bigger league with a white, straight star. That’s the story so far. The jealousy is crazy and counterproductive to all.”
Others praised Clark as well. For example, Fox News Digital reported NHL analyst Colby Cohen said, “Humble, classy, professional, I could go on and on. The other players in the @WNBA should take a lesson from Caitlin.” Similarly, ESPN anchor Jon Buccigross posted, “She continues to rise above all the pettiness and selfishness of those around her. Impressive person. Good Midwest stock. (still thinks she ends up on the team).”
