Former President Donald Trump recently discussed a potential policy that would place tariffs on other nations that refuse to take back illegal immigrants who entered the United States and originated from their country.
Trump made the remarks at a town hall event in Phoenix, Arizona; a state reeling from Joe Biden’s border crisis. The policy suggestion from the presumptive Republican presidential nominee would be a tool to incentivize other countries to assist the United States in tackling its rampant illegal immigration. “We have tremendous economic power,” Trump stated. “… we have these things called tariffs.”
The border crisis and subsequent out-of-control illegal immigration has become one of the most prominent issues of the Biden administration and a top-of-mind concern for voters around the country. At his recent Las Vegas, Nevada rally, Trump addressed Biden’s Executive Order toward the border, claiming that it was counterproductive.
Trump blasted the measure, telling his crowd of supporters, “Last week, crooked joe signed an executive order that is pro invasion, pro child trafficking, pro woman trafficking, pro human trafficking, and pro drug dealers. It’s a pro drug dealer bill. It’s weak, it’s ineffective, it’s bullsh*t. What he signed.”
After facing calls to utilize his executive power to promote border security, President Biden had long disputed that he had the authority to do so. Instead he blamed congressional Republicans for not producing legislation that would address the matter.
Many have suggested that Biden finally felt compelled to take substantive action toward the border thi slate into his term as his polling numbers continue to drop ahead of the presidential election later this year. Furthermore, Sen. John Kennedy sounded off on Biden, claiming that the border crisis was a man-made creation from Joe Biden.
“The American people, they may be poorer under President Biden, but they’re not stupid. They see this. They look at the border. The crisis at the border is man-made. And that man’s name is Joe Biden? But why did they do this?” he said.
The Louisiana Republican further illustrated how the nation is in an extremely “vulnerable state,” the likes of which hasn’t been observed since the devastating wars throughout the 20th Century. “Look at the the economy. Look at health care. Look at our border. Look at crime, look at our international relations. Look at the war in Ukraine. Look at Gaza. Look at Afghanistan. Look at our relationship with Iran. We haven’t been this vulnerable as a country since well before the World Wars, when we were trying to just stay out of everything, and then we got pulled in,” he continued.
According to Kennedy, the problems American faces, as dire as they may be, do have solutions. However, he expressed that he has lost in faith in Biden’s ability to bring about the necessary solutions. “And it’s sad, but it’s fixable. It is fixable. But I believe this. I hate to be so cynical. I think the only place we’re going to find a more secure board and a saner country is in the boating booth, I’ve given up on President Biden,” he concluded.
