Earlier this month, legendary country music singer Lee Greenwood recently honored military veterans in a message ahead of Memorial Day. Greenwood has consistently expressed his support for the service members in his patriotic statements.
Greenwood recently told Fox News that the United States is an example for the rest of the world to follow, as America is the pinnacle of freedom. He added that, as a nation, the U.S. has a unique ability to safeguard freedom worldwide.
“We are a beacon of hope for the rest of the world,” Greenwood said on Fox News. “There are other countries that embrace freedom, but no other country has the ability to protect it. To go after those who would defeat it and destroy it. We have some conflict inside our borders, and we have people running across our borders who shouldn’t be.”
While Greenwood isn’t blind to the struggles the U.S. is currently enduring, he maintains that if we adhere to the founding principles set by our forefathers, the country will persevere. “But I still believe that if America continues to live by the doctrines we started with, and that’s the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights,” he added. “If we live by those documents, no matter if the administration changes or not, we can move on as an American public. And I have great faith in that.”
He then addressed those in the U.S. military who have served this nation, proclaiming that “American believes” in their service and dedication to the land of the free. Greenwood emphasized that, as a nation, the U.S. is proud of its veterans.
“My encouragement to veterans is to know this, I’ve toured this country now for 40 years, and all of America believes in what you have done,” he said. “They believe you are wearing the uniform of America, and we are all proud of our veterans.”
Lee Greenwood also recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of his famous song “God Bless the USA,” one of the most prominent patriotic anthems for decades. “This is the 40th anniversary of me writing my song ‘God Bless the USA’—so that was the inspiration to have the number 40 represented in this musical presentation,” Greenwood stated.
The singer invited dozens of other singers to collaborate on a commemorative DVD that would go toward assisting veterans. “There are 40 different singers we invited to film this DVD. And these performances were a one-time thing. We had all of these people gathered for just one event, and it was very important to me that we were able to give away two homes to two veterans—two of America’s wounded warriors—during the filming,” Greenwood stated.
The American Tribune also reported on recent comments from Greenwood, in which he expressed his Christian faith and how that impacts his political support. “I’m a conservative Christian,” he said. “And if the doctrines and platform of the current running president does not appeal to me and yet the up-and-coming challenger [and his platform] does [appeal], I will support that challenger.” The singer indicated that he would “stand by” President Trump if reelected later this year.
