The electric vehicle market has been flooded with new entrants over the past couple of years, where traditional automotive companies are looking to capitalize on the trend. The EV has been particularly alluring to new buyers in light of record-high gas prices and the thought of being eco-friendly.
What consumers don’t see behind this trend are the slew of issues with this new technology in its infancy. A recent Twitter thread details the horrific experience one buyer has had. Twitter user, NevilleTheCat, wrote about the litany of problems their friend faced while owning the new Ford F-150 Lightning.
A buddy of mine bought a Ford Lightning EV this summer and paid WAY over sticker for it. Just watched a YouTube video about it & called him to verify if it was all true.
It is.

The thread reads:

To say he has regrets is a monumental understatement. He’s angry & feels scammed. He now trying to sell it but he’s looking at a massive loss for what he’s being offered.
The rage he was quoted was a complete lie and he literally can’t use it to go to work. It does not have the range to drive to work and drive home. He literally can’t use it to go to work.
Keep in mind he bought this truck knowing that range would drop off like a stone if he was towing anything or had any load in the bed. He has nothing in or on the truck. Just him and his lunch.
Well the temp dropped here in MO & he’s now realized his range has dropped IN HALF!!! Cold weather will cause any EV to lose range but with the weight & energy draw of the Ford Lightning it’s dropped in half of what he was getting. Not of what was advertised, but real range.
This guy paid almost $90,000 for the fully loaded 2022 Ford Lightning F-150 Crew Cab and has to run a 110 extension cord down the hall and out the window to his truck JUST TO MAKE IT HOME!
These are common problems EV owners are reporting online. First, electric vehicles on average are considerably more expensive than regular cars. The average cost of a new EV is roughly $66k compare to that of a gas-powered vehicle which is around $48k. The price of higher-end EV trucks far exceeds the average, as shown in this example where the buyer payed nearly $100k. The critically acclaimed EV Hummer produced by GM is selling for upwards of $250k. EV’s are not affordable cars for the average American.
The driving range of EV’s is another big problem, where the internet if full of stories illustrating the limited distance they can drive on a charge. EV owners will often complain about how the range is a massive inconvenience on long road trips, drastically increasing their travel time due to factors such as battery capacity and charging time. However, the Lightning is apparently incapable of being used to drive around town.
There are significant issues that make many EV’s inferior to regular gas-powered vehicles that have proven their convenience and reliability for over a century. Like the owner of this Lightning, many are scrambling to get rid of this “truck” and others like it.
