Recently, supporters of former President Donald Trump assembled in the Bronx this past weekend to demonstrate their support ahead of his upcoming trip to the city. According to Trump’s campaign, Trump is set to host an event in the South Bronx on May 23.
Videos have circulated around social media showing the crowds of MAGA supporters, many of whom were displaying pro-Trump signs and memorabilia. One banner read, “The South Bronx for Donald Trump.” Various other signs had phrases such as, “Black Lives MAGA,” “Black Patriots For Trump Rally. The Bronx. 5/18/24,” “Hochul it’s the Bronx, not duh Bronx,” and Young Black Kids Growing Up In The Bronx Who Don’t Even Know What The Word Computer Is. Governor of NY Kathy Hochul.”
In other footage, members of the Black Patriots for Trump organization gathered in a park, where several individuals spoke about former President Trump and urged the crowd to vote for him in the upcoming election.
One person stated, “We want jobs, we want fair housing, we want better schools so our children won’t be accused of not being able to know what a computer is. Build some brand new state-of-the-art computer labs in those schools, make the investments into these communities. Trump will be here on the 23rd, and we hope to see a turnout. There’s a 3500 person capacity, and we’re expecting to see 3500 people with an overflow.”
Another woman stressed that “we need to come out and vote for Trump.” She said, “Don’t be afraid. Don’t be afraid. Stand with me. Fight with me,” the woman said. “Because I am here for the people. We the people, it is we the people. I am here for the children, the future of our country, for our children. I have grandchildren, I want a better America for our children.”
Another man who spoke at the event proudly stated, “We are here today to send New York City a message. We stand with Donald Trump, we love Donald Trump, and we are waiting for Donald Trump to make New York great again.” “We are going to register you to vote,” another speaker told the crowd. “We are going to offer you, if you have a criminal record we will clean and seal your criminal record,” he added, hinting at possible criminal reforms.
In recent weeks, while former President Trump has been in New York City for his hush money trial, he has been met several times with large crowds of cheering supporters. He suggested that he was “very close” with Biden in the historically liberal state along with several other swing states. Watch the speakers below.
Trump suggested that he would “make a play” for New York. “We’re very close in New York I understand and we’re leading in the country by a lot. A poll just came out a little while ago, as you saw yesterday, that we have we’re up in every swing state and up by a lot in every swing state so I think we’ll do very well and we’re gonna make a play for New York,” he stated.
