Last year, Fox News host Geraldo Rivera announced that he would soon conclude his time on the channel’s hit show, “The Five.” Rivera had a reputation for engaging in fiery arguments with the panel of co-hosts about a number of issues. However, he stated at the time that he would remain active at Fox News in other roles.
In light of Rivera’s departure from the show, a compilation of videos highlights the tense nature of his relationship with other members of the popular show. One clip shows Rivera and co-host Greg Gutfeld lashing out at each other over their respective differences in opinion about electric vehicles.
Gutfeld alleged that Rivera was “sermonizing” over EVs, as he voiced a positive view of the vehicles. During the segment, Gutfeld continually pointed at Rivera while slamming his viewpoints on EVs and the Green Energy agenda. This led Rivera to exclaim, “Stop pointing at me!”
Another fiery moment of Rivera’s on “The Five” occurred before the Supreme Court ruled to overturn Roe v. Wade, where he accused conservative Supreme Court justices of lying about whether abortion rights were protected by previous legal precedent. After devolving into a heated exchange with Gutfeld, Rivera emphatically labeled his co-host an “insulting punk.”
During another instance, Rivera and Gutfeld Jawed at each other regarding a sexual assault case in Virginia, where Gutfeld suggested that anyone voting for Terry McAuliffe is “voting for r*pe!” A clash between the two ensued before Rivera proclaimed to Gutfeld, “That’s total bullcrap!”
One particularly fiery discussion between Rivera and Gutfeld revolved around the southern border crisis, which grew so tense that Rivera ended up apologizing to his co-host. Rivera had wrongfully accused Gutfeld of claiming immigrants were directly responsible for a significant spike in crime.
Moreover, during a pandemic-era segment, tensions mounted between the panel where Rivera railed against his co-hosts over their stances on the vaccine. Gutfeld and Watters both slammed Rivera’s opinion on unvaccinated individuals before Rivera profanely stated, “You come into my grandchildren’s house and you’re not vaccinated, I’m gonna kick you in the ass.”
“Being odd man out isn’t always easy,” explained Rivera, known for touting liberal arguments on the conservative network. His passionate takes were often at odds with the rest of the majority conservative panel, creating “friction” between him and his co-hosts.
Upon Rivera’s announcement that he would leave the show, he stated, “There has been a growing tension that goes beyond editorial differences and personal annoyances and gripes. It’s not worth it to me.” The veteran journalist further noted that the tense dynamic on “The Five” was representative of the broader political polarization plaguing the country.
He told the Associated Press that his interactions with his colleagues at Fox News are “a reflection of what the country is going through…It’s not an easy job if you take it as personally as I do.” Rivera also claimed that management at the network did not seem entirely motivated to keep him on the show.
Since Rivera departed from the show, Jessica Tarlov has taken the hot seat as the resident dissenting opinion on “The Five.” This has led to many intense arguments between the conservative panel and Tarlov’s liberal takes, which always created captivating content.
