Recently, Rep. Chip Roy dissected a speech from Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez before Congress, slamming her argument. AOC had accused Republicans of wanting to pass tax cuts while maintaining “excessive” levels of military spending.
The Democratic congresswoman slammed the GOP for having “run up a bill” while blaming the left for wanting to spend taxpayer dollars. Ocasio-Cortez further implied that the government should provide even more services to taxpayers.
“For anyone that wants to entertain that thought, I asked you to think about the last time a person said has said in this country that the government does too much for them, that their social security check was too high, that teachers are paid too much. When was the last time anyone has heard or seen that?” she asked her fellow members of Congress.
However, Chip Roy addressed AOC’s comments, taking a conservative stance that the government’s role in the daily lives of Americans should not be expanded any more than it already is. Roy suggested that no one appreciates giving bureaucrats power over their lives.
Roy stated, “When was the last time anyone is heard or seen that? I’ll say it. I’ll say it right here. I don’t want the government doing most of the things that the government is doing to interfere with the ability of the American people to carry out their lives, federal, state and local. What was the last time you had a bureaucrat show up and you said Oh, joy. Thank you. Really glad there’s a bureaucrat here.”
The Republican representative pointed out that the federal government is trillions of dollars in debt, creating a massive financial burden for every citizen in the United States. Roy further pointed out the government’s incompetence in performing basic duties, such as securing the border from foreign threats.
“What was the last time you were thankful for $32 trillion in debt $100,000 Almost for every man, woman and child in America. Anybody thankful for $32 trillion in debt. Anybody thankful for a border that’s wide open, be exploited by cartels, what fentanyl comes in and kills that kills our children. Everybody thankful for that. Department of Homeland Security that doesn’t actually secure the homeland.”
Aside from the gross incompetence of the government, Roy cited examples of the agencies and bureaucrats seemingly working directly against the interests of the American people who fund them. The Texas congressman outright stated that the government is “weaponized” against its citizens.
“Anybody thankful for the IRS knocking on your door auditing the poor of the minorities three to five times more. People thankful for that. Are you thankful for the EPA or the Department of Interior that sent a man to prison because he had some pawns on his ranch in Montana? We have a government that is weaponized against the American people and is undermining our liberties. And they want more of it. My colleagues on the other side of the aisle want more, more government. They want more taxes, they want more spending. They want more bureaucrats knocking on your door,” he added.
He stressed to his fellow Republicans who might be considering joining the Democrats in making a deal, “I want to be very clear, and I want to be clear to my colleagues on this side of the aisle. Anybody making a deal right now? $4 trillion? Are you out of your frigging mind?”
