Recently, a vegan cafe owner in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, spoke beside former President Donald Trump at a Waukesha rally. Shana Gray, the owner of Gray Jett Cafe on Marquette’s campus, said that while she voted for Biden in 2020, her appearance with Trump was a “plea” to the current administration.
“I just pretty much put a plea out there to the administration of which I voted for to let them know that I am a struggling business owner,” Gray told Fox News. She noted that change is necessary for the sake of her business and community.
She added, “I’m just looking for a change to pretty much help me and people of my community. Understand, my cafe was created to be a community space to provide not just good vegan food, but a space for people to come — a very safe space for people to come and have conversations of things and topics that are affecting them.”
Last year, Joe Biden previously made comments to the Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce, where he offered his support to the black small business community. “Every new business opening is a vote for hope,” the president said. “You’re making the American economy stronger and our nation more competitive. I’m here to celebrate the progress we’re making to support Black small businesses here and around the country… When Black small businesses grow. everything benefits, the community benefits. Everyone benefits — not a joke.”
Gray addressed these comments from Biden, suggesting that while he may have made some appealing remarks, it doesn’t change the fundamental economic reality she faces daily when dealing with problems, such as inflation, that jeopardize her business.
“I really believe it’s the worst it’s ever been. We need to get somebody like Trump back in office because he really cares about the middle-class people. Biden doesn’t seem to care,” he said, reminiscent of the economy during the Trump administration.
The American Tribune has reported on the negative economic sentiment toward Biden’s economy coming from swing states such as Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and others. As the economy is typically one of the most important issues on voter’s minds, this pervasive view is problematic for the Biden campaign.
A Fox News reporter recently walked around a Pennsylvania diner and asked random patrons for their thoughts on the Biden economy. “I really believe it’s the worst it’s ever been. We need to get somebody like Trump back in office because he really cares about the middle-class people. Biden doesn’t seem to care,” one man said. Another echoed a similar sentiment, stating, “Terrible, terrible. I didn’t think retirement was going to be as difficult as it is right now. Gas prices are through the roof. Food prices. Terrible. We need a change.”
Furthermore, the findings of a recent research project discovered a unanimous opinion among a group of swing state voters that former President Trump was far better for the economy than Biden. One Pennsylvania voter lamented the economy’s current state under Joe Biden.
“We have areas here in Pennsylvania where it’s just at a standstill right now. Like, things are supposed to be being built and the interest rates are just way too high for people to, you know, invest and start moving around,” she stated. “The interest rate is so high right now and I know they’re trying to cut the inflation down, but like, if nobody is building, no businesses are really coming to Pennsylvania right now to keep us moving forward.”
