Recently, former White House Communications Director Hope Hicks gave her testimony in the hush money trial. Even though prosecutors called her to the witness stand, Hicks’ testimony could prove to be helpful to the former President in the legal battle.
An essential element of Trump’s defense in the case is that his motivation for suppressing the alleged extramarital affair was to protect his family, particularly the feelings of his wife, former First Lady Melania Trump. This contradicts the argument from prosecutors that Trump’s underlying intentions were to protect his image and influence the 2016 election.
According to Hicks, Trump was concerned about a particular story in the Wall Street Journal relating to model and actress Karen McDougal and how Melania would receive it. As a result, the witness claimed that Trump asked her to ensure the papers were not delivered to his residence one morning.
“THIS ISN’T A TRIAL, IT’S A POLITICAL CAMPAIGN, A WITCH HUNT, JUST LIKE THE HIGHLY CONFLICTED AND BIASED JUDGE, JUAN MERCHAN, WANTED IT TO BE,” Trump recently wrote on social media. I’M SURE HIS POLITICAL FRIENDS AND ALLIES, AND CROOKED JOE BIDEN, IN PARTICULAR, WILL BE THRILLED THAT THEY ARE GETTING AWAY WITH THIS CORRUPT, “ANCIENT,” AND HIGHLY POLITICAL ATTACK ON HIS 2024 PRESIDENTIAL OPPONENT.”
In an interesting piece of news related to the hush money trial, The American Tribune reported that former Stormy Daniels Attorney Michael Avenatti has been in contact with Trump’s legal team, offering to testify on his behalf if necessary. Avenatti shares a sentiment similar to Trump’s: the trial is politically motivated and unfair toward the former president.
“I’d be more than happy to testify. I don’t know that I will be called to testify, but I have been in touch with Trump’s defense for the better part of a year,” Avenatti said. “There’s no question [the trial] is politically motivated because they’re concerned that he may be reelected. If the defendant was anyone other than Donald Trump, this case would not have been brought at this time, and for the government to attempt to bring this case and convict him in an effort to prevent tens of millions of people from voting for him, I think it’s just flat out wrong, and atrocious.”
Trump, for his part, has been using the time spent in New York City because of the trial to visit groups favorable to him around the city, such as when he brought pizzas to some of the city’s firefighters at a fire station close to Trump Tower. Watch that here:
