Former President Donald Trump recently wished his wife, Melania, a happy birthday from Manhattan, where he has spent his fourth day enduring the Manhattan hush money trial. Trump stepped outside the courtroom, beginning his remarks by noting the former first lady’s 53rd birthday.
Trump stated that it would be “nice” to celebrate his wife’s birthday with her. However, he is forced to attend the Manhattan trial, which he maintains is “rigged.” “I wanna start by wishing my wife Melania a very happy birthday. It would be be nice to be with her, but I’m at a courthouse for a rigged trial,” said Trump, visibly frustrated. “But we’re doing very well in this rigged trial, and everybody knows it.”
Trump further criticized the case, adding, “Yesterday was a big day, but I do have to begin by wishing Melania a happy birthday. She’s in Florida. I’ll be going there this evening after this case finishes up. This horrible, unconstitutional case, hen it finishes up.”
The former president then pointed out the release of a House Judiciary Committee report on the DA’s office that he intends to read. He said, “We have a report that was just put out by House Judiciary on the district attorney’s office. Which was done by Congress. And so like I guess it just came out a little while ago, a few moments ago. I haven’t seen it yet, I haven’t read it. But it should be interesting.”
Trump spent the remainder of his post-court comments summarizing his experience during the proceedings. He expressed optimism, claiming the previous day “went very well.” He emphasized his opinion that the case should be “over,” while complaining about the “conflicted” Judge Juan Merchan.
“I think yesterday went very well. In this courthouse. It was, it should be over the case is over. You heard what was said and the case should be over. But you’ll have to make that determination. I think we have a judge that never allow this case to be over in a positive way. He’s highly conflicted. The most highly conflicted judge I’ve ever seen,” Trump said.
The GOP frontrunner also commented on the Supreme Court hearing arguments about presidential immunity, stating, “And yesterday in the Supreme Court, having to deal with immunity, I heard the argument, it was brilliant. I listened to it last night. I thought it was really great. I thought the judge’s questions were great. And all presidents have to have immunity. This has nothing to do with me. Absolutely nothing. All presidents have to have immunity or you don’t have a president and certainly not a president that the founders wanted.”
Trump also expressed how “freezing” cold it is in the courtroom, which he suggested is being done intentionally. “So we have another day of court in a freezing courthouse. It’s very cold in there. For a purpose I believe. They don’t seem to be able to get the temperature up. It shouldn’t be that complicated, but we have a freezing courthouse, and that’s fine. Just fine. Let ’em keep handing it out, it’s a rigged trial. Thank you very much.”
