In an absolutely wild podcast appearance released on Friday, April 19, former Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton said that she thinks former President Trump wants to, if he wins the 2024 election, model himself after dictators, giving Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin as an example. She further suggested that he wants to commit egregious crimes against those who oppose him.
Hillary Clinton, of course, is the failed, former Democrat presidential nominee who Trump managed to beat in 2016 after a highly contentious election. The Clinton Campaign was behind many of the allegations that Trump was connected to Russia, such as by helping fund the infamous Steele Dossier, which led to much of the Trump-Russia collusion attacks.
In any case, during her appearance on the “Democracy Docket” podcast, Hillary argued that Trump is modeling himself and what his second term would be like on the iron-fisted rule of global dictators, even going so far as to suggest that he would have his political enemies killed if he manages to win the 2024 election.
Speaking to host Marc Elias, an election lawyer, on the podcast, Hillary first pointed to Putin as Trump’s model then accused him of wanting to do all manner of awful things. She claimed, “Putin does what [Trump] would like to do. Kill his opposition, imprison his opposition, drive journalists into exile, rule without any check or balance. That’s what Trump really wants.”
Continuing, she returned to the point about Trump modeling himself off of other dictators, even suggesting that Trump sees North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, infamous for his brutality and repressive regime, as a role model. She claimed, “And so we have to be very conscious of how he sees the world because in that world, he only sees strong men leaders. He sees Putin, he sees Xi, he sees Kim Jong Un in North Korea.”
She then suggested that America has been down a similarly dictatorial path before, though she didn’t indicate to which president she was referring, as no American president has been like Kim Jong Un. She said, “Those are the people he is modeling himself after and we’ve been down this road in our, you know, world history. We sure don’t want to go down that again.”
In any case, she continued, returning to fear-mongering about Putin. She told Elias, “My view, having negotiated with Putin, and knowing one of the reasons he went after me is because he knew I would deal with him in an appropriate way, and Trump would basically do whatever he wanted, it’s really important to think about what could happen to our world with Trump back in the White House.”
She then attacked Trump for being less than interested in keeping up the same interference in other countries abroad, saying, “Withdrawing us from NATO, not caring about what happens with Europe … The idea that he wants Ukraine to fail. The idea that he doesn’t want us to be able to surveil our enemies. This is a very scary prospect.”
