Appearing on “The View,” the Biden Administration’s Secretary of the Department of Energy, Jennifer Granholm, claimed that President Joe Biden is “obsessed” with pushing down gas prices. That conversation came on Thursday, April 18, amidst a discussion between Alyssa Farah Griffin and Granholm about gas prices and the administration’s efforts to decrease them.
Griffin presented the matter, asking how the Biden Administration plans on pushing down the price of gas, particularly now that chaos in the Middle East is potentially going to create yet more fuel price inflation. She asked. “What is the administration doing to lower those prices, and should we be worried about the conflict the Middle East contributing?”
Granholm, for her part, claimed that the price of gas is largely dependent on events in the global market and that an event like the chaos in the Strait of Hormuz is the sort of thing that pushes up the price of gasoline. She also claimed that President Joe Biden is “really focused” on pushing down the price of gas, and, as evidence of that, noted his release of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
She said, “People may not be aware: Of course, oil is where you get your gas from, and it’s traded on a global market, and so if there is a conflict in, you know, the Strait of Hormuz that blocks the flow of oil, that impacts you — what you pay at the pump. The president is watching this. He’s obsessed with it, and so we’re going to be doing what we can.”
Continuing, she then encouraged Americans to buy an electric or hybrid vehicle to avoid higher gas prices, saying, “If they switch over, if, you know, you’re in the market for a new car and you decide you want to look at electric vehicles, this is the time. Or hybrid, hybrid-electric.”
“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg then noted that such an idea is far from reasonable for all Americans, particularly those without the resources to buy one or who don’t have a place to plug it in. She asked, “What if you live in the projects? What if you don’t have a home?” Granholm admitted that “there are gaps in urban areas.”
Whoopi, however, looked far from convinced as Granholm rambled about building more EV charging stations across the country, so Granholm paused and said, “You don’t look convinced.” Goldberg then noted the large cost of electricity to many Americans, saying, “I am convinced, but I do have questions because people are getting energy bills — electric bills — that are insane.”

Granholm also encouraged people to “weatherize” their homes, saying, “One of the biggest things you can do is to be able to weatherize your home, and there are tax credits associated with that doing that.” She added, “So, for example, if you want to install windows that don’t leak out the heat in the winter and the cold in the summer, you can get a tax credit for that.”
