Speaking during a monologue on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Fox News Channel host Jesse Watters tore into the new National Public Radio (NPR) CEO, Katherine Maher, noting her far-left bias and commenting on the allegations made about NPR by longtime editor Uri Berliner, who recently claimed that the outlet has lost the faith of Americans because it is totally dominated by the left.
As background, Berliner, in an article for The Free Press, noted the vast disparity in numbers of left-leaning employees and non-left-leaning employees of the federally-funded outlet and documented the lack of concern amongst his colleagues. He also described how that left-leaning bias prevented the outlet from reporting accurately on some issues, such as Hunter Biden’s laptop.
NPR CE) Maher then went on the attack against Maher, saying, “Asking a question about whether we’re living up to our mission should always be fair game: after all, journalism is nothing if not hard questions.” She continued, “Questioning whether our people are serving our mission with integrity, based on little more than the recognition of their identity, is profoundly disrespectful, hurtful, and demeaning.”
Maher added, “It is deeply simplistic to assert that the diversity of America can be reduced to any particular set of beliefs, and faulty reasoning to infer that identity is determinative of one’s thoughts or political leanings.” She then said, “Each of our colleagues are here because they are excellent, accomplished professionals with an intense commitment to our work: we are stronger because of the work we do together, and we owe each other our utmost respect. We fulfill our mission best when we look and sound like the country we serve.”
Berliner was then suspended without pay over his comments. Watters, tearing into the woke outlet for its treatment of Berliner, said, “Remember whistleblower Uri Berliner, who went public and came clean about how NPR doesn’t do journalism anymore, it just does DNC propaganda against Trump? Well, the new NPR CEO suspended him without pay.”
Continuing, Watters commented on the resume of the woke CEO, namely her history of far-left comments about Trump and gender. Doing so, he said, “Well, what do we know about this new NPR CEO, Katherine Maher? She’s got the perfect resume. In 2016, she criticized Hillary for not being woke enough: ‘I do wish Hillary wouldn’t use the language of boy and girl. It’s erasing language for non-binary people.’ In 2018, she declared that ‘Trump is a racist,’ and she did it again in 2020.”
Giving more examples of Maher’s far-left bias, Watters brought up her comments on race, then returned to her pro-Biden stance. He said, “During the “Summer of Love,” she called all White people racist and then capped the year off showing how excited she was to vote for Biden. That’s who NPR hired as CEO.” He added, “Not only is she an avid lib, she’s a liar. She gave a whole TED talk about working for Wikipedia and talked about how important different perspectives are.”
