Vice President Kamala Harris has consistently been criticized for her long-winded “word-salad” explanations and monologues when addressing various topics. While the vice presidency is often described as a largely symbolic role, the individual should at least inspire confidence in the administration from the American public.
Harris recently appeared on the “I’ve Had It” podcast, discussing the “nature of democracy.” Speaking to co-hosts Jennifer Welch and Angie Sullivan, she delivered a lengthy comment about the supposed “duality” of democracy, highlighting its strengths and weaknesses.
“It’s important to see that, you know, the nature of democracy, there’s a duality to it. It has two sides to it. On the one hand, there’s incredible strength, right, that when a democracy is intact, what it does for its people, in terms of the strength it gives its people and protects, in terms of individual freedoms and rights, right, and liberties. There’s an incredible strength in that, what it does for its people, when it is intact. On the other hand, democracy — extraordinarily fragile,” Harris said.
“It’s only as strong as our willingness to fight for it. That’s by nature what a democracy is. It is about the people,” the vice president added. Harris was met with criticism online for her comments, where some questioned the validity of her comments and her ability to deliver her talking points coherently.
Democrats often idolize the supposed “democracy” that governs our nation, seemingly forgetting that the United States is officially a constitutional republic. “We live in a constitutional republic!!” one user said after hearing Harris discuss her opinions. “Power to the people that’s the nature of Democracy. That being said the other stuff is backed by the nature of Liberty backed by our constitutional republic,” another X user said, echoing the same sentiment.
“Harris does not instill confidence at all!” another person added, presumably calling out Harris’ rambling about democracy. “I’ll say this gently, Kamala…you really need to talk less. I understand that the blonde bobbleheads are enraptured…but they think Whoopi is smart too. Know your audience,” another user said, offering a constructive piece of criticism to the vice president.
RNC Research, a popular Republican National Committee-operated X account that often calls out the Biden-Harris campaign, posted footage of the vice president’s “word salad” explanation of the “nature of Democracy.” Watch the clip below:
The American Tribune also reported on a recent incident where Harris was criticized for her delivery of comments at an abortion clinic. The vice president was accused of “cracking jokes” during her remarks, which many found offensive, given the setting.
“It is only right and fair that people have access to the health care they need and that they have access to health care in an environment where they are treated with dignity and respect. And please do understand that when we talk about a clinic such as this, it is absolutely about health care and reproductive health care,” she said.
Harris then delivered the following comment in a seemingly sarcastic and joking manner, which the crowd laughed at. “So everyone get ready for the language…uterus. That part of the body needs a lot of medical care from time to time. Issues like fibroids, we can handle this,” she said.
