According to recent reports, undecided voters overwhelmingly favor former President Donald Trump over Joe Biden regarding economic issues. A panel of eight undecided voters from a handful of states expressed a longing for the economy the nation once had just a few years ago when Trump was in the White House.
Throughout the Biden administration, the abysmal state of the economy has been a major pain point for many Americans who have struggled to attain the “American Dream” amid a challenging macroeconomic backdrop of sky-high interest rates and levels of inflation that haven’t been seen in decades.
One Wisconsin voter named Nathan didn’t sugarcoat his feelings about the economy, stating, “I think he’s been absolutely disastrous for the economy.” Biden has faced intense criticism over his policies, which many have argued worsened inflation. For example, his anti-fossil fuel policies have been blamed for contributing to the sharp increase in energy prices Americans have endured.
At one point, the panel of “undecideds” was asked if they thought Trump’s economy was more favorable to their families. “Raise your hand if you think President Trump’s policies would be better for your family, personally.” All eight voters unanimously raised their hands following this question.
One Pennsylvania voter named Virginia explained the business landscape in her state is at a “standstill,” lamenting the difficulty of making investments in the current interest rate environment. Virginia noted that she understood the need to tame inflation with the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy but claimed it is dragging down the local economy.
“We have areas here in Pennsylvania where it’s just at a standstill right now. Like, things are supposed to be being built and the interest rates are just way too high for people to, you know, invest and start moving around,” Virginia said. “The interest rate is so high right now and I know they’re trying to cut the inflation down, but like, if nobody is building, no businesses are really coming to Pennsylvania right now to keep us moving forward.”
Another Pennsylvania voter named Gigi complained that it doesn’t feel as if Biden has taken any accountability for the state of the economy.“I feel like he doesn’t even take accountability at all with what’s going on,” she said. “Not even accountability, like he’s in denial that it’s happening.” Watch MSNBC coverage of the panel below:
The American Tribune previously reported on the panel where all 8 of the voters agreed that Trump’s economy is far superior than Biden’s. The unanimous opinion from the se undecided voters in crucial swing state is problematic for the Biden campaign, as the economy is typically a high -ranking issue for voters.
Mark Halperin, one of the founding members of 2WAY, spoke about the project, stating, “‘The Undecideds’ is an unprecedented 2024 battleground state project that will bring together the most critical voters in the country, drawn exclusively from the seven states that will pick the next American president.”
“Through a unique combination of synchronized polling and focus groups, viewers will meet, learn about, and hear from fellow citizens in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Nevada, and Arizona, and watch as they grapple with indecision about whom to support for president – or whether to vote at all,” he continued.
