Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) recently refused to condemn “de*** to America” chants that broke out during a rally in her district. Tlaib is a member of “The Squad,” which consists of progressive congressional leaders, many of whom have expressed pro-Palestinian sentiment.
For context, an anti-Israel protest was held in Dearborn, Michigan, where a local activist led a crowd in the abhorrent chants against the country they reside in. The group also chanted “de*** to Israel” and asserted that the Jewish state does not deserve to exist.
Fox Business reporter Hillary Vaugh approached Rep. Tlaib in the U.S. Capitol and asked the congresswoman if she would denounce the chants that occurred at the anti-Israel rally. However, Tlaib refused to address the question, repeatedly exclaiming, “I don’t talk to Fox News!”
“At a rally in your district people were chanting “de*** to America.” Do you condemn?” Vaugh asked the simple question. “Do you condemn chants of “de*** to America?” she restated the question in futility as Tlaib maintained she would not speak to the network.
“I don’t talk to people that use racist tropes,” Tlaib added. “Why can’t you just say whether or not you condemn people chanting death to America? Why are you afraid to talk to Fox News,” Vaughn responded. “Listen, using racist tropes towards my community, is what Fox News is about. I don’t talk to Fox News,” the Democratic representative responded.
The Fox Business reporter then questioned whether it was considered racist to chant “de*** to America.” Tlaib answered, “I’m talking about your guys’s racist tropes. You know, you guys are — you know exactly what you do. And I know you’re Islamophobic, but you guys gotta go deal with it on your own selves. You’re not going to use me.”
For some reason, the Democratic Party is unwilling to outright condemn the violent rhetoric coming from the anti-American and anti-Israel protest that has caused a firestorm on the internet. X user Hannanya Naftali posted footage of the tense encounter with the caption, “Dear America, You have a Congresswoman called Rashida Tlaib who is receiving a salary funded by your taxes, and yet she refuses to condemn “death to America” chants. I’m confused, is she working for Americans or against Americans?” Watch it below:
The American Tribune also reported on comments from White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who seemingly dodged a question asking her if President Biden would issue a statement condemning the reprehensible chants in Michigan.
Reporter Jacqui Heinrich directly asked Karine Jean-Pierre, “Is the President at all concerned that Dearborn is becoming — is facing a risk of becoming a hotbed of any sort of homegrown threats?” The spokeswoman responded, “I — I don’t have any intelligence to share with you on that. Obviously, that’s something that we’re always very vigi- — vigilant about. But don’t have any national intelligence to — to share it with you.” She claimed, “But obviously, we will condemn any — any violent rhetoric —”
She added after additional questioning, “The other part, too, that I do want to be very clear about: You know, peaceful protest is something that the President has also been very, very clear that is important for — to give folks space to peacefully protest. But any type of violent rhetoric, we are going to denounce.”
