Recently, former President Donald Trump met with the family of fallen NYPD officer Jonathan Diller, who was tragically killed by a career criminal during a routine traffic stop. Trump showed his support for Diller and his family by attending the officer’s wake.
The 31-year-old officer was shot and killed during a Queens traffic stop on March 25. Suspect Guy Rivera allegedly shot Diller as he approached the car. Diller is leaving behind a wife and 1-year-old son. Rivera had been arrested 21 times before the incident, and another suspect, Lindy Jones, is an ex-convict.
In light of Diller’s death, former President Trump called for a crackdown on crime as many of America’s urban environments have become riddled with violent crime. Speaking to the press at the fallen soldier’s wake, Trump criticized the criminal, stating, “the person in the car with him was arrested many times, and they don’t learn because they don’t respect. They are they’re not given the respect, the police are the greatest people we have is nothing and there’s nobody like them and this should never happen.”
Trump further noted that he personally visited with Diller’s family. “I just visited with a very beautiful wife that now doesn’t have her husband. Stephanie was just incredible. Their child brand new, beautiful baby city there innocent as can be. Doesn’t know how his life has been changed. But the Diller family will, you’ll never be the same. You can never be the same,” the former president said.
The former president maintained that “law and order” must be restored as too many tragic instances continue to occur. “And we have to stop it. We have to stop it. We have to get back to law and order we have to do a lot of things differently because this is not working. This is happening too often,” he said.
“It’s an honor to be here and again. I want to just thank all of you folks for allowing us in Bruce. Thank you. Bruce has been a friend of mine for a long time. He’s done an incredible job out here. But this is such a sad occasion. The only thing we can say is maybe something is going to be learned. We’ve got to toughen it up. We’ve got to strengthen it up,” he added.
Concluding his message, the GOP presidential candidate noted the privilege for him to attend at the wake. “This should never be allowed things like they shouldn’t take place and to take place so often. So thank you all for being here. It’s an honor and it’s an honor for me to be here,” he stated. Watch footage of Trump’s speech below:
