Recently, “The View” has received criticism following an on-air discussion amongst the panel of women about their views on men. The conversation quickly devolved into how the co-hosts viewed men as “useless.”
Co-host Joy Behar introduced the topic, citing a recent clip on the internet in which women were asked if they needed men. According to Behar, the question was reversed when men were asked if they needed women, to which most answered yes.
“In this clip going viral online of a dozen women being asked the following question, do we need men? Most answered very quickly. No. And only one said she thought women needed a man in their lives only one. But when men were asked a similar question, do we need women? Most of them said yes. So why do you think that is?” Behar said.
“Because men are useless,” Ana Navarro said. She then went on to make a significant distinction between straight and gay men, applauding homosexuals for their apparent utility in the daily lives of women. “Nobody can help you from keep you from doing harm to yours to yourself like gay men,” she said.
After complimenting Behar’s husband, Navarro proceeded to slander her own husband during her rant, suggesting he is entirely reliant on the care of women. “My husband, it takes a village of women to make sure that he’s not emaciated, starving and living in his own filth,” she added.
However, not every panel member was so harsh toward men, or at least their husbands. Alyssa Farah Griffin seemed to discuss the sheer importance of a woman having a strong marriage, stating her husband is “irreplaceable.”
“I took this totally differently and how I prep because broadly speaking, I feel like men have proven largely useless like I think in the political moment that people who are still there what needs to be in my party. It’s all women. Very few men with the exception of Mike Pence and few others are saying what they need to put in life like I need my husband. I don’t know if I need any other men but he is irreplaceable. Yeah, I think so. Like our husbands we just don’t need men beyond,” Griffin said.
However, Navarro chimed in with another disparaging comment toward men and their role as husbands in the nuclear family. “Yeah, wait till you’re married 20 years and you’ll see how replaceable they are,” she said after Griffin’s somewhat positive comment. Watch the segment below:
“I think that the reason women can stay married for as long as they do is because they have a lot of girls they have a village they have girlfriends, because I always have to initiate the conversations,” Behar added, implying that women are each other’s source of strength.
Some critics of the anti-men discussion on “The View” have pointed out the double standard, where there would be unimaginable backlash that would ensue if a group of men had the same discussion about women on live television.
